COLUMBIA, SC — Verizon Wireless announced it will expand the nation’s largest 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) network to more places in the Midlands and reach 70,000 people who did not previously have access to Verizon’s high-speed network. Verizon Wireless initially launched its 4G LTE network in the Columbia market in April 2011 to areas like Lake Murray, Irmo, West Columbia, Cayce, Lexington and Gilbert and starting July 19th, more areas in Columbia will now have access to Verizon’s 4G LTE. In addition, Bamberg, Calhoun and Orangeburg counties will also have access on July 19th to Verizon’s lightning fast 4G LTE service to surf the Web, stream music and video, download files on 4G LTE smartphones, tablets and mobile hotspots.

“Now more Verizon Wireless customers across the Midlands can access our 4G LTE network, which means more than 73 percent of South Carolina’s population can download music or upload photos faster than ever before, broadening their communications possibilities with family, friends and colleagues,” said Jerry Fountain, president of Verizon Wireless’ Carolinas/Tennessee region.

With the new and expanded markets, the company’s 4G LTE network will be available in 337 markets, to more than two-thirds of the U.S. population. Verizon’s 4G LTE averages data rates of 5-12 megabits per second (Mbps) on the downlink and 2-5 Mbps on the uplink in real-world, loaded network environments.

Customers in the Midlands will also be able to access Verizon’s recently introduced HomeFusion™ Broadband, a internet solution that leverages the power and speed of the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE network to deliver more in-home Internet options.

Additionally, Verizon Wireless customers can choose from the largest selection of 4G LTE devices, ranging from tablets and mobile hotspots to the latest smartphones and more, including the recently launched Samsung Galaxy S® III and DROID INCREDIBLE 4G LTE by HTC.  Details on available devices can be found at www.verizonwireless.com/4GLTE and information on plans and pricing is available at www.verizonwireless.com/plans.
