LIMA, OH — Through its exclusive HopeLine®  program, Verizon Wireless will demonstrate its commitment to ending the epidemic of domestic violence by holding a one-month phone collection drive at a local Verizon Wireless Communications Store.  Starting on Saturday, July 21, members of the Lima community can bring their unwanted wireless phones and accessories to the Verizon Wireless Communications Store at 3292 Elida Road, Suite 500 in Lima.  The drive will benefit Lima’s Samaritan House, an emergency shelter for homeless and abused women and children. For every phone or tablet recycled at the store during the month-long drive, a donation will be made to Samaritan House.

The company’s long-running HopeLine program collects no-longer-used wireless phones and equipment in any condition from any wireless service provider.  The used phones are either refurbished or recycled.  With the funds raised from the sale of the refurbished phones, Verizon Wireless donates wireless phones and airtime to victims, and provides funding and other contributions to non-profit domestic violence shelters and prevention programs across the country.

In addition, Verizon Wireless will present a financial grant of $1,000 to Lima’s Samaritan House, supporting Samaritan House’s mission to help women become self-sufficient.  The organization, celebrating 25 years of service in August, has provided comfort, hope and encouragement to more than 10,000 individuals in crisis.

“We have adopted a quote from Mother Teresa that we try to live up to, ‘Let no one ever come to you without leaving happier,’” said Samaritan House’s Marilyn Cipollone.

“Since launching nationally in October 2001, Verizon Wireless’ ongoing HopeLine phone recycling program has collected more than nine million phones,” said Mark Frazier, president–Ohio/Pennsylvania/West Virginia Region, Verizon Wireless.  “It’s because of our customers’ continued support of HopeLine that we are able to make a difference in the lives of domestic violence victims.”

At the conclusion of the month-long wireless phone drive, Verizon Wireless will present a check to Samaritan House to support the organization’s programs, geared toward helping women become self-sufficient.

Wireless users in Lima who are looking to get hands-on experience with the latest voice, data, music and video devices don’t have to look far.  The Lima store on Elida Road is an “evolution” communications store, which offers consumers and small business customers hands-on interaction with wireless voice, data, music and video services in a sleek, new full-service environment.  The store will offer a Wireless Workshop on July 22 from 6-7:30 p.m. for customers to learn more about their devices and how to customize them to fit with their needs.
