CHAPEL HILL, NC — Verizon Wireless has announced it is making the University of North Carolina (UNC) experience even better for students, faculty and thousands of UNC sports fans with a new state-of-the-art 4G wireless Distributed Antenna System (DAS) to improve wireless coverage, capacity and data speeds during peak network usage occasions.

The DAS installed includes separate antennas located throughout campus to boost network strength and capacity to ensure all nooks and crannies at the Davis Library, Kenan Stadium or The Pit are covered.  In addition to ensuring calls are successfully connected, the DAS allows smartphones, tablets and other devices to access the Internet, send text messages and quickly share photos and videos to social networking sites.

“The DAS makes reliable call quality, text messaging and data usage during major events a reality for any Verizon customer on UNC’s campus, no matter how large the crowd,” said Jerry Fountain, regional president of Verizon Wireless for the Carolinas and Tennessee.  “The new system couldn’t come at a better time: Incoming freshmen, faculty members or season ticket-holders, Verizon customers coming off of Tobacco Road will notice the benefits of this network enhancement across campus.”
