HUTCHINSON, KS — Today Governor Sam Brownback joined Verizon Wireless Region President Brendan Fallis in Hutchinson, Kan., to mark the importance of the expansion of  4G LTE wireless service in the state by “flipping the switch” to activate 4G LTE in Hutchinson.

On September 20, 4G LTE officially launches in the new markets of Hutchinson, Lawrence, Emporia and Coffeyville.  Verizon is also announcing 4G LTE expansions in Dodge City, Hays, Salina, Topeka and Louisburg.  All these cities and surrounding areas join many others in the state of Kansas already with access to the technology. More Kansans are now powered by Verizon Wireless 4G LTE than by any other provider, including those living in the top 20 most populated cities and numerous rural areas.

Governor Sam Brownback welcomed Verizon Wireless’ 4G LTE investment in Kansas and especially its roll-out in rural communities. “Verizon Wireless is leading the way in providing wireless broadband service to smaller communities such as Hutchinson, as well as the rest of Kansas,” said the Governor. “Verizon Wireless is answering my call to ‘Grow the Kansas Economy’ by bringing its industry-leading 4G LTE to more and more Kansas towns.”

Kansas residents’ access to 4G LTE is due to Verizon’s ongoing investment and commitment to the state.  In the first half of 2012 alone, Verizon invested more than $38 million in Kansas to power an increasing number of state customers with 4G LTE.  Since 2000, Verizon Wireless has invested $443 million in its Kansas network.

4G LTE was introduced a little more than 18 months ago, but already is available to more than 75 percent of the U.S. population in more than 371 markets, and offers more than six times the geographic coverage of any competitor’s 4G LTE network nationwide. Verizon Wireless continues its roll-out of 4G LTE and has committed to introducing the service in 400 markets by year-end.

The significance of 4G LTE to Kansas residents is that they now have access to this new technology which is up to 10 times faster than the company’s industry-leading 3G network. For downloads, in real-world, fully loaded network environments, 4G LTE users should experience data rates of 5 to 12 megabits per second (Mbps) on the downlink and 2 to 5 Mbps on the uplink.

With the demand for technology at your fingertips becoming more of a necessity all the time, Verizon Wireless’ 4G LTE brings Kansas up to speed- literally. The 4G LTE network allows streaming videos with no buffering, or downloading and the viewing of full-length HD movies. Music lovers can download songs in seconds, gamers can take part in multiplayer online action, and social media types upload photos and posts while on-the-go. Business owners use the efficiency and speed of the 4G LTE network to boost their bottom line.

“We’ve rolled out 4G LTE quickly to serve our Kansas customers with the most advanced wireless technology,” said Brendan Fallis, president – Kansas/Missouri Region, Verizon Wireless. “Tech-savvy Kansans are putting to great use the speed and power of 4G LTE.”
