There’s something about the thrill of buying a new handbag. But, it’s even better when that purchase helps raise awareness for domestic violence prevention. Columbia, Mo., residents shopped for a good cause at the 5th Annual Purse Passion and Poker.
Hosted by True North, a domestic violence prevention organization and shelter, Purse Passion and Poker featured some of the latest designer purses and raised funds to support victims and survivors. And, this year they upped the ante. Poker enthusiasts also participated in a charity poker tournament to help raise funds for the organization.
The Journey of Hope bus made its fifth tour stop at the event, which washosted last week at The Market Place & Columbia Pool & Spa. Event attendees stopped at the bus to spin the Wheel of Hope, testing their knowledge on domestic violence statistics.
One of the many messages tacked onto the bus’ Wall for Hope included a simple statement: “Strength is found in the community.” In a day full of hope, the community of Columbia demonstrated strength and support for this important cause.
