NORFOLK, NE and SAN DIEGO — Verizon Wireless today announced at MobileCON 2012 that customers in Norfolk, Neb., will be able to experience the speed and capabilities offered through the innovative products and solutions available on its 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) network, when the company introduces the service on Oct. 18.  With the new and expanded markets, the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE network will be available in 417 markets across the United States, surpassing its goal to cover 400 markets by the end of 2012.

The company also announced that 4G LTE service will be launched in North Platte, Neb. on Oct. 18 and in Grand Island and Hastings, Neb., by the end of the year.

On Thursday, Oct. 18, customers who visit or live in Norfolk, Battle Creek, Bloomfield, Hadar, Hartington, Madison, Meadow Grove, Osmond Pierce, Plainview and Randolph will be able to take advantage of expanded 4G LTE coverage, as well as along these highways:

  • North on U.S. Highway 81 to State Highway 12;
  • South on U.S. Highway 81 to Madison;
  • East on U.S. Highway 275 to 561st Ave.;
  • West on U.S. Highway 275 to Meadow Grove; And,
  • Along U.S. Highway 20 west of U.S. Highway 81 to State Highway 13 and east of U.S. Highway 81 to 561st  Ave.

The Verizon Wireless 4G LTE network offers more coverage than all U.S. wireless providers combined and is the nation’s largest 4G LTE network. Verizon Wireless first launched its 4G LTE network in Omaha on Aug. 18, 2011, followed by Lincoln on Nov. 17, 2011, and since then the company has expanded both market areas this year.

“With our 4G LTE network, customers can take advantage of the speeds offered by our 4G LTE devices and the innovative solutions that leverage 4G LTE technology to enhance connectivity,” said Seamus Hyland, president-Great Plains Region, Verizon Wireless.  “We will continue aggressively expanding and enhancing our 4G LTE network in Nebraskaa and across the country to provide our customers with the best wireless experience possible.”

In real-world, fully loaded network environments, Verizon Wireless 4G LTE customers should experience average data rates of 5 to 12 megabits per second (Mbps) on the downlink and 2 to 5 Mbps on the uplink.  Consumers in 4G LTE areas are able to surf the Web, stream music and video, and stay in touch with family, friends and colleagues, all with speeds up to 10 times faster than 3G.

When customers travel outside of a 4G LTE coverage area, 4G LTE devices automatically connect to Verizon Wireless’ 3G network, enabling customers to stay connected from coast to coast.  Verizon Wireless’ 3G network is the most reliable high-speed data network in the country and allows customers in 3G coverage areas who purchase 4G LTE devices today to take advantage of 4G LTE speeds when the faster network becomes available in their area, or when they travel to areas already covered by 4G LTE.

Verizon Wireless customers can choose from the largest selection of 4G LTE devices and solutions to experience the nation’s fastest 4G network.  4G LTE devices range from tablets and mobile hotspots to the latest smartphones and more.  Details can be found at www.verizonwireless.com/4G LTE

In celebration of the 400-market milestone, the Verizon Wireless Communications Store, located at 701 S. 25th St. in Norfolk, will be hosting an event on Oct. 20.  Additional details will be announced next week.
