The skies may have been unusually dreary in San Diego, Calif., but the mood was bright at the Private Survivor’s Picnic and Kobey Swap Meet on Oct. 20 and 21. The weekend marked the final stop of Verizon Wireless and National Domestic Violence Hotline’s (The Hotline) national bus tour, which traveled across the country during Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM), spreading hope and sharing domestic violence resources.
Both events in San Diego included domestic violence prevention advocates,
like Norma Mazzei from The Hotline and Danielle Lingle from the Center for Community Solutions. Attendees participated in various activities to raise awareness, including spinning the Wheel of Hope, entering to win purple Lucid by LG phones and writing on the Wall for Hope, all while sporting purple bracelets to raise awareness.
During the month of October, the bus traveled more than 5,600 miles, reached more than 40,000 people, collected nearly 1,000 devices and captured more than 200 stories and messages of hope. Together, Verizon Wireless and The Hotline met some courageous individuals and shined a light on this devastating social issue.
