HUNTINGTON, WV — In an effort to help Tri-State Area residents affected by Hurricane Sandy, Verizon Wireless will show its support for the Huntington Area Food Bank by holding a food drive during the month of November.  Beginning on Saturday, November 3, 2012, the company will be collecting non-perishable food items at the following Verizon Wireless store locations in West Virginia:

  • Teays Valley
    4194 State Route 34
    Hurricane, W.Va. 25526
  • Pullman Square
    898 Third Avenue
    Huntington, W.Va. 25701
  • Ashland
    416 River Hill Drive
    Ashland, KY 41101

In addition to the food drive, Verizon Wireless will donate $2,500 to the Huntington Area Food Bank to help with the anticipated increased demand for food as residents recover from the damage caused by Hurricane Sandy.

“Hurricane Sandy covered many areas of West Virginia with a tremendous amount of snow that has downed trees and power lines.  As recovery efforts begin across the state, area food banks expect the demand for food to far exceed the current supplies,” said Mark Frazier, president–Ohio/Pennsylvania/West Virginia Region, Verizon Wireless.  “At Verizon Wireless, we want to do what we can to help residents in West Virginia get through this difficult time.   We are pleased to offer our assistance to the Huntington Area Food Bank and the communities it serves.”

The Huntington Area Food Bank (HAFB) is a non-profit organization affiliated with Feeding America, the largest hunger relief agency in the United States.  They serve a client base of 96,000 food insecure individuals through 260 member agencies in 12 counties of southern West Virginia, and four counties of northeastern Kentucky and Lawrence County, Ohio.  In 2011, HAFB distributed 6 million pounds of food, water and cleaning supplies.
