Leaving the country doesn’t mean you want to leave your life behind. If you’re planning to take your smartphone with you overseas, there are a few things to remember.
Before heading off for an international getaway, log on to your My Verizon account online or via My Verizon Mobile to add a global calling or data plan. For example, if you’re looking to access data – email, social networks, and Web browsing – from your smartphone while abroad, you may want to take the guesswork out of international travel with the Global Data Plan, which offers U.S.-based customers 100 MB of data for $25 a month.
Once you land, look for a free Welcome Text message with helpful information about the country you are visiting, including dialing instructions (exit codes) from that country and a toll-free number to reach 24/7 U.S.-based global customer support.
During your trip, keep tabs on your wireless usage with free Global Data Roaming Usage Alerts. When global data roaming charges exceed certain thresholds you will receive an alert via text message or email so you know where your usage stands.
A good rule of thumb when traveling internationally is to turn off any applications that are automatically updated. Apps that give you stock prices, news or weather use data when updating and while those things may be important to you, turning them on for updates over Wi-Fi is a cost effective way of managing your data service plan.
After your international excursion ends and you’re back home, log back on to your My Verizon account and remove your global plan. With some quick pre-trip planning and post-arrival support, you can kick back, relax and share the journey.
