For the city hosting the Super Bowl, the event isn’t entirely about football. The weeks leading up to game time brought a host of exciting events and activities to town.

Former players including Super Bowl XII champion running back Tony Dorsett and current New Orleans Saints ambassador Michael Lewis, teamed up with active Saints players Chris Chamberlain, Akiem Hicks, Michael Higgins and Curtis Lofton, to spread some kindness throughout the Crescent City.

As part of the Random Acts of Kindness Tour, players handed out gift cards at local gas stations and worked behind the counter at local restaurants and retail locations. Locations were kept secret until minutes before the group’s arrival when the Saints and Verizon announced the next stop on Twitter.

Other fans had once in a lifetime opportunities to watch the NFC and AFC championship games with NFL legend and Super Bowl XXIV defensive back Ronnie Lott at an exclusive party. To enter, fans had to show their NFL Mobile app on their Verizon Wireless devices at select retail stores.

The party took place at Walk-On’s Restaurant in New Orleans. Lott got the party started with a meet and greet photograph sessions for fans. He also participated in a halftime “Nola Super Bowl XLVII” trivia contest that offered fans the chance to win signed merchandise.

Finally, for lucky NFL fans, the dream of Super Bowl XLVII became a reality through the Verizon Race to Super Bowl XLVII contest.

After local fan favorite Drew Brees kicked off the race with a “Who Dat” chant, 140 football fans navigated their way through the historic New Orleans French Quarter for a technology-focused adventure hunt with Verizon Wireless 4G LTE devices in hand. Teams of fans had to deliver secret messages on their smartphones, record dances and chant “Who Dat” to race to participants stations throughout the French Quarter. The lucky winners were Katie McCluskey, Susan Tart and Toya Layman, led by team captain Angelica Kehoe.

All the events were part of NOLA 10, a series of 10 distinct events leading up to the big game, celebrating the record-tying 10th Super Bowl the Crescent City has hosted.
