In a month dominated by the colors red and pink, why not dare to be different? Wear orange.

Today, Love is Respect is calling on teens and others wanting to take a stand against dating violence to wear orange to help kick off Respect Week. Respect Week is one of several activities that the organization will host throughout Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month.

Love is Respect reports that nearly 1.5 million high school students across the country experience physical abuse from a dating partner. Show your support by snapping a picture in your orange attire and share the photo on Facebook or Twitter by using the hashtags #TDVAM and #RESPECTWEEK. Join the event on Facebook to find out more information.

Teens can also show their support by holding an event to educate others on the topic, writing to local public officials to issue a proclamation supporting Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month (TDVAM) in their community or taking part in a series of educational webinars to learn more about healthy relationships. Resources to support these initiatives are available on Love is Respect’s official TDVAM website. Teens can also host a HopeLine from Verizon drive to collect used wireless phones and accessories in support of dating violence victims and survivors.

To learn more about the issue follow Love is Respect on Twitter and find out how you can help prevent dating and domestic violence.
