While it's nice to focus on conservation on Earth Day, the truth is that it takes a little bit of effort, from everyone, every day, to really make an impact on our environment.

Fortunately, being more environmentally friendly doesn't mean ridding your life of all modern conveniences. In fact, modern technology can help us reduce our impact on the environment.

Save on gas, mileage and car emissions simply by staying in for movie night. A drive to your local theater or video store is no longer required to enjoy a movie. With services like Verizon FiOS video-on-demand you can get a theater-like experience from the comfort of your home.

Technology allows us to spend time with family and friends while avoiding the time, expense and environmental impact of a flight. One flight between New York and Los Angeles produces 1,600 pounds of CO2 per person. Instead, skip the trip, and use free services like Tango and Skype on your mobile phone to connect virtually with family and friends. You can also upload photos and videos with the Samsung Galaxy CameraTM  to share special moments with your loved ones as they happen.

Finally, you can plant a tree. Besides making our landscape more beautiful, trees provide a number of environmental benefits. According Zapworld.com, an average size tree produces enough oxygen to keep a family of four breathing for one year.

And, for those of you who would like to plant a tree but can’t find the time or the space, you can still make a difference by recycling an old phone. From now through April 28, Verizon Wireless will help plant a tree for every device recycled through its recycling program. We will also help plant a tree for qualified purchases of an ECO Specs device or select accessory.

What other ways can you think of to go green?
