UPDATE - Friday, July 26: Remaining connected with friends and family while traveling from city to city is important, ensuring they can share experiences through social networking updates or a simple phone call. RootMetrics® recently studied the 50 busiest US airports and found that Verizon Wireless had or shared the top network performance in 30 of them.

June 14 - This summer, vacationers will flock to museums, restaurants and other attractions in popular cities across the country.  When it comes to the preparation, travel apps help make exploring the sights easier and stress-free.

Travelers heading for the Windy City can tour Chicago differently with the Chicago City app. The app provides self-guided tours by using a device’s GPS to locate nearby landmarks and also creates a trip journal with photos and location check-ins that can then be shared on Facebook.

On the East Coast, tourists can explore and relive Boston’s history at their own pace when walking the historic Freedom Trail with the Tour Boston's Freedom Trail app. Featuring HD-quality video footage and audio, vacationers have access to historical information about each stop for an interactive, self-guided tour. Heading west, San Francisco also has many attractions that require careful planning. The San Francisco Travel Guide app makes trip preparation a breeze by suggesting attractions and activities based on a user’s personal interests, schedule and transportation needs.

For relaxing beaches and bustling restaurant scene, visitors can find both in Key West. The Key West Local Guide provides tourists with information on more than 340 landmarks, restaurants and more. The app also provides the history of Key West, travel guides and self-guided tours that includes information contributed by Key West locals.

No matter the final destination, jet setters will find that booking flights and hotels can be easy with the Kayak app. Users can compare flight and hotel rates for the best deal and manage their itineraries right from their devices. After tickets and reservations have been made, travel records can be stored right on a smartphone with the TripIt Travel Organizer app. TripIt allows travelers to keep all important documents in one place, so they never have to worry about losing important information.

This summer, make the most of sight-seeing in these and other popular cities.
