Mobile job hunting is on the rise. According to a survey from career site Glassdoor.com, 68 percent of people “use their mobile device to search for jobs once a week or more.” Further, 84 percent “believe mobile devices will be the most common way people search for jobs within the next five years.” Those people starting their next job search can use mobile devices to help look for jobs, research companies and find salary information.
“At Verizon, candidates can now reduce time applying online by using their LinkedIn profiles,” said Cleo Stockhoff, associate director of HR in the Mountain Region for Verizon Wireless. “They can also set up job alerts through the career site and receive email notifications of job openings that fit their search criteria.”
LinkedIn, a professional networking website, recently updated its mobile app to include a variety of new features. In addition to applying for positions directly through the app, users can view and add professional connections, join groups and update professional information, making it even easier to find and apply for jobs that best suit their skills and experience.
The Job Search app by Indeed Jobs offers a broad database of job listings. Candidates can search for open positions in a number of ways, including proximity via the built-in GPS on their devices.
Similarly, CareerBuilder offers a mobile app for job hunting. Users can search for available opportunities, receive personal job recommendations and share jobs with friends via texts, email or social channels.
Before beginning a job search candidates should brush up on interviewing skills and update their resumes. The 101 HR Interview Questions app provides sample questions and answers to help prepare for an interview, while the Resume Builder Pro app allows users to update and submit their resumes from the app, and the information is backed up and accessible at all times.
