From rowdy relatives to dangerous decorations and shopping shenanigans, the perfectly choreographed dilemma is a critical theme in many favorite holiday movies. In the spirit of “It’s a Wonderful Life,” it’s interesting to wonder how some of our favorite movies might have been changed by today’s modern mobile technology.
While some may have a tough time getting into the holiday spirit, no one in movie history has been more opposed to holiday cheer than the miserable Grinch and the miserly Ebenezer Scrooge. But would they be so down in the dumps each December if they could skim Pinterest for great decoration, recipe and gift ideas?
Occasionally parents need convincing when it comes to certain gift requests. In “A Christmas Story,” young Ralphie’s quest for his Red Ryder BB Gun would have been easier if he could have used his smartphone to pull up product reviews. Then again, it’s quite possible Ralphie may have had a new tablet on his holiday wish list instead.
Some parents, on the other hand, have braved swarming crowds to find that one must-have gift. There’s no doubt Arnold Schwarzenegger could have used apps like ShopSavvy in “Jingle All the Way” instead of brawling with a dozen mall Santa Clauses.
Though holiday time is meant to be spent with loved ones, sometimes families are forced to be apart. In “Home Alone,” the McAllisters could have had a much easier time keeping tabs on Kevin – and nabbing the home intruders – by setting up a home Wi-Fi camera with built-in motion detector. Plus, they could have posted all the hijinks they missed to YouTube later.
