The battle for space in Christmas stockings hanging from mantels across the country is heating up. It’s not easy to get excited about an orange in your stocking when a Samsung Gear S™ smart watch takes up about the same space. With that in mind, check out some tiny gadgets from the Verizon Wireless lifestyle zones.

Last year, Forbes declared 2014 the year of wearable tech, so stuffing your family’s stocking with these devices will catch them up on a trend they may have missed. The Fitbit Charge activity and sleep wristband, for example, helps users set fitness goals and keep them, with real-time stats synced to a smartphone or computer and displayed in OLED. The Jawbone Up24, on the other hand, is an activity, calorie and sleep tracker that offers the choice to team up with others to compete and encourage successful goal completion.

If you are looking for a few toys to fill the stocking, the Orbotix Sphero 2 Robotic Gaming System is fun for kids of all ages. Controlled by a smartphone, the Sphero is a fist-sized lighted globe that rolls wherever you steer it on any horizontal surface, causing mischief. More serious gamers will enjoy the MOGA Ace Power system that turns the iPhone 5 into a precision mobile gaming system, all while charging your phone.

Headphones are another smartphone accessory that easily fit into any stocking. In a recent post, Gig Ross, the San Diego-based mommy blogger of Kludgy Mom, was looking for “cool headphones that don't blow the budget” for her kids. The Wicked Deuce Universal Stereo Headset is one option. The headset comes with a microphone for hands-free calling and three sets of earbuds to choose from for the perfect fit. If you and your family want to play music throughout the house, consider the Jawbone Mini JamBox to turn any compatible Bluetooth-enabled device into a virtual stereo system.

For the athletes on your list, Zepp Sensors’ 3D motion technology will help improve their game. The sensors, which are small enough to clip to a batting or golfing glove and fit into a stocking, transmit information about the user’s swing to any compatible iOS or Android device for analysis. The amateur player in your life will appreciate the gift at least as much as that orange you were considering.

The Verizon Wireless “’Tis the Season for Tech Gifts” series provides holiday gift suggestions for everyone on your list this year.
