Since the 1960s, music technology has evolved from cassette tapes to CD players to MP3 players. Today, mobile devices are bringing you the tunes you want when you’re on the go.
Music streaming service Spotify takes a unique approach to providing you with your favorite albums and songs. The company recently introduced free mobile streaming: a “radio-like experience” where you can personally design custom playlists. To see the music videos for all the songs in your playlists, download the Utubify app and type in your Spotify user name.
Other free music streaming apps like iHeartRadio and Pandora let you create entire customized streaming radio stations and listen to any genre to match or change your mood.
Similarly, Rhapsody lets monthly subscribers browse and play any song in just a tap or two. You can download entire albums and tracks to a mobile phone or tablet so you can listen to your favorite tunes when you’re home or out and about.
The notion of on-demand music doesn’t stop with streaming services. Apps like Shazam and SoundHound can quickly identify a song heard in passing. Whether you’re in a coffee shop or in the checkout line at the grocery store, these apps can name that tune (and artist), and then you can download the music to your device in seconds.
In addition to services to provide music, there are also many mobile accessories to let you enjoy that music your way, too.
