Sports are in my blood. I’m a native Iowan (and Hawkeye), and my career has included stints at several universities where I helped promote women’s athletics. Eventually, I took my interest in communications to the tech industry, where I’m now the public relations manager for the Great Plains Region for Verizon Wireless. My favorite apps help me navigate my busy lifestyle and job, as well as my passions.

1.  Evernote – I typically make paper printouts so, to be green and better organized, I’ve adopted Evernote for taking virtual notes and making to-do lists. Granted I’m a rookie user, but I love that I can access this information on my smartphone, tablet or various computers.

2.  Sports Apps

  • ESPN College Football – This is a must-have app for college football fans. It provides me with game-time feeds, live video and news. Plus, I can easily search for important information by conference, making it easy for me to keep up with the best conference in the U.S. – the Big Ten.
  • Hawkeye Sports – This is the official app of all University of Iowa sports teams and I use it to stay up to speed with all the sports teams at my alma mater. Chances are high that your school has a similar app.
  • WNBA Center Court – I’m an avid fan of the current WNBA Champion Minnesota Lynx, and this app allows me to get the latest WNBA news, scores and live casts of games.

3.  TouchTunes – I originally downloaded this app so I could play the Iowa Fight Song at a Jukebox after a Hawkeye football win! The app works in more than 60,000 bars and restaurants. I can search music by artist and song or what’s hot – I can even become the DJ.

4.  Final Countdown – Whether I’m working on a special project or counting the days to a major life event or vacation, this digital countdown timer is a great app for those events.

5.  Fly Delta – Living in one of Delta’s hub cities, Minneapolis-Saint Paul, I frequently fly this airline. The app offers more than just check-in options and boarding passes; it has been upgraded to include my preferences along with account and loyalty information.

6.  Flixster – Whether I’m at home or traveling, I find this app to be an awesome resource for movie reviews, ratings, listings, trailers and theatre showtimes near my location.

These are my favorite apps. What are yours? Tell us on Twitter at @VZWnews or @VZWkaren.
