Smartphones have drastically changed the world we live in today and continue to take shape daily. With more than 55 percent of cell phone owners saying they use their phones to go online, browse the Internet, exchange emails or download apps – according to a Pew Research Center study – it’s no wonder that people are constantly asking each other for app insight and advice.

I had a chance to hear from some of New York and New Jersey’s leading reporters and bloggers about their favorite apps for media sharing, fashion, music and more. Here’s what they had to say:

    1. Dropbox is an app that Peter King of Newsday can’t live without. Dropbox is a free service that allows users to upload photos, documents and videos to the Web so they can easily be shared.

    2. Lil'Stylers is a go-to app for Serena Norr of MomTrends. She loves this cool app that changes the way moms shop for their kids’ clothing – allowing them to discover new brands and the latest trends.

    3. Slacker Radio is Jennifer Schiavone of Metro Source Magazine’s most-used app. She favors Slacker because it has a large music library, hand-curated song matching and the ability to create on-demand streaming playlists that include only the songs users want to hear (a feature that's available for a monthly fee).

    4. Polyvore is a must-have app for Maria Colaco of The New York Mom. This style app allows creative types to produce and share fashion and home decor collages with the flick of a finger.

    5. NJ TRANSIT MyTix is a highly ranked app by Jacob Krol of NJTechReviews. This app allows New Jersey commuters to buy train tickets on their mobile devices with the click of a button. Perfect for those who are running late, this app can save precious time.
