Record low temperatures and snowstorms across the country this winter are resulting in many cancelled school days. Having a snow day is every kid’s dream, until they get bored with being cooped up inside. When the cabin fever strikes, however, there are tech toys available that are sure to keep kids entertained.

Crayola DigiTools PaintPack, for example, is a no-mess painting studio that goes well beyond paper and smocks. Kids can experiment with a variety of artistic styles, using the Digital Paintbrush to create virtual watercolor or acrylic designs, the Digital Airbrush to create spray-art effects or the Digital Stamper to add images that come to life. The accompanying Paint App is included.

Beyond coloring, the Creativity Camera by LeapFrog can turn a smartphone into a tool for fun, creative exploration of letters and colors. When combined with the free LeapFrog camera app, children can enjoy hours of games and educational activities.

Some kids may crave a bit more of a challenge. To test their puzzle-solving skills, Ravensburger Augmented Reality Puzzles take the traditional activity to a whole new level. Once the puzzle is complete, children can use the related app and the camera on a smartphone or tablet to bring it to life with video animation and sound.

Older kids and teens, on the other hand, can turn their devices into a mobile gaming system with the MOGA PRO Power. The device features multiplayer capability, dual analog sticks, a directional pad, shoulder buttons, triggers, full-sized grips, illuminated action buttons and S.M.R.T. Lock technology that securely holds a phone.

With spring still months away, parents can make the tech investment to help keep their kids’ boredom at bay during snow days.
