UPDATE - Wednesday, April 9: The Samsung Galaxy S 5 will be available online and in Verizon Wireless stores starting April 11.
April 4 - The Samsung Galaxy S 5 will be available for preorder starting today. Customers can purchase the device for $199.99 after a $50 mail-in rebate with a new two-year activation, and for a limited time, get a second one free after $50 mail-in rebate, also with a new two-year activation. Customers will have two color model options, Charcoal Black and Shimmery White.
The Verizon Edge program is also available for eligible customers who want to upgrade. For a limited time, customers who choose Edge and a MORE Everything plan with 10 GB data allowance or more can add four smartphones to the plan for $160 per month.
The Galaxy S 5 has a 5.1-inch Full HD Super AMOLED display that provides rich colors and dark blacks for videos, games, browsing, social media and more. The display has adaptive features that automatically optimize the color range, saturation and sharpness of the display – meaning users have the best seat in the house when viewing their favorite content.
The 16-megapixel camera comes with a variety of modes that allow anyone to capture a great photo. The Selective Focus Setting lets users change the subject of focus – blurring subjects in the photo near or far, even after the shot is captured, for a creative picture. Photography fun doesn’t stop once the picture is taken. The Studio feature has a complete suite of editing tools. Shutterbugs can create collages, apply effects and add music to video. MORE Everything customers get 25 GB of cloud storage so they can upload and save their creations to the cloud.
The mobile lifestyle goes beyond just messaging and apps, it’s about the everyday life of a mobile user, and that includes their wellbeing and finances. S Health on the Galaxy S 5 lets users track their heart rates, steps, set workout goals, earn badges and log meals. And the smartphone is Softcard-ready*, so it supports mobile payments with Softcard Mobile Wallet*, which reduces the need to carry credit cards. Instead, users can pay for items at participating merchants with a single tap of their smartphone.
While physical protection of devices is important, personal data can be just as precious. The Find My Mobile solution on the Galaxy S 5 gives users a variety of tools to help protect their information and aid them in finding the phone if it goes missing. Users can track their devices using GPS, lock/unlock it, remote wipe their data and more. The software also includes a Reactivation Lock option to stop other people from reactivating the device and doing a factory reset.
