Since 1932, the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo (aka RodeoHouston) has entertained crowds with championship rodeos, carnivals and concerts. Today, Houston’s signature event is also the world’s largest live entertainment and livestock exhibition, drawing nearly 2.5 million visitors during the 20-day long rodeo. This past March, Verizon Wireless helped enhance the quintessential Western rodeo experience with some added wireless technology.

As a long-time partner and supporter of RodeoHouston, Verizon Wireless has always looked for opportunities to provide powerful technology and innovative solutions to enhance the experience of not just the visitors, but also the exhibitors and volunteers that make the show happen.

This year, Verizon Wireless and RodeoHouston were able to provide a connected experience to millions by implementing a variety of wireless technology. Upon check-in, livestock exhibitors streamlined the application process using tablets, registering more than 3,200 animals total. Concessions converted from traditional cash registers to tablets as a point of sale device, increasing accountability and overall productivity. The rodeo also gained a more accurate impression of the overall visitor experience by using tablets (instead of traditional pen and paper) to provide interactive surveys.

And to ensure a complete and connected experience, antenna systems and fiber optic cables installed throughout the grounds provided rodeo attendees with plenty of bandwidth to share their experiences on social media.

Verizon Wireless’ longstanding partnership with the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo has improved the lives of today’s digital consumer for many years and will continue to do so into the future.
