It’s a fact: accessing the web, and especially streaming content wirelessly whether for work or play, is an integral part of many consumers’ lifestyles. That makes their choice of wireless provider an important decision – after all, no one enjoys dropped calls or a sputtering data connection.

Once again, customers who select the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE network have evidence that they’ve made the right choice.  Verizon was the overwhelming network performance leader in the rankings of U.S. wireless providers in the third National RootScore® Report, issued today by Seattle-based RootMetrics®.

Verizon Wireless was tabbed the Overall RootScore Award Winner in the National RootScore Report and the leader in the state rankings with wins or ties for first place in 48 states. In addition, Verizon Wireless ranked highest in the following National RootScore categories: Reliability, Speed, Data and Call Network Performance.

In RootMetrics’ state-by-state rankings, Verizon Wireless overwhelmed the competition with the most wins or ties in five categories. Verizon Wireless was ranked first or tied for first in:

  • 48 states for Overall Performance (vs. 12 wins/ties for the nearest competitor)
  • 47 states for Reliability (vs. 15 wins/ties for the nearest competitor)
  • 45 states for Speed (vs. 13 wins/ties for the nearest competitor)
  • 47 states for Data (vs. 9 wins/ties for the nearest competitor)
  • 46 states for Call (vs. 16 wins/ties for the nearest competitor)

In the tally of this comprehensive study, Verizon Wireless won more awards in total than every other provider combined.

“We continually invest in our network, innovate and work hard – not to win awards but to win our customers’ trust,” said Mike Haberman, vice president of technology for Verizon Wireless. “Our deployment of XLTE technology, available in over 400 markets, is a good example of our relentless focus on constant improvement. Customers value reliability, and being able to connect to our 4G LTE network when, where and how they need really differentiates us from our competition.”

RootMetrics, an independent mobile analytics firm, said its national study was designed to portray the consumer mobile network performance experience at a national and state level, beyond their metro-specific reports. Each RootScore is calculated from a combination of tests that are weighted to reflect the impact that a consumer would experience. Scores were based on RootMetrics testing performed in the second half of 2014 (July-December). The company ranked the four major U.S. wireless providers in six network performance categories: Overall, Reliability, Data, Speed, Call and Text.
