Millions of green-wearing fans packed the streets around 5th Ave in Manhattan to celebrate the St. Patrick’s Day Parade. With their mobile phones in-hand, calling and texting their friends, locating their favorite NYC Irish pubs and capturing pictures and videos was fast and easy.

Those pictures of the beautiful floats, selfies with family and friends and videos of blaring bagpipers shared by Verizon customers immediately before, during and after the parade in Manhattan contributed to 2.1 TB of data, compared to 780 GB during the 2014 St. Patrick’s Day Parade, a more than 169% increase in usage. That number represents more than 2 billion social media posts, 9.3 million email messages, and 1.5 million web pages accessed and more than 56,000 videos shared.

Well before the Grand Marshal, Cardinal Timothy Dolan, the Archbishop of New York, made his way down Fifth Avenue, Verizon Wireless ensured its customers experienced the best its network had to offer by more than doubling XLTE capacity along the parade route. It’s just a part of Verizon Wireless continued investment in its network, as proven by the more than $460 million it invested in the New York Metro region in 2014.

Verizon Wireless customers who attended the parade could attest, as RootMetrics® network performance rankings from February 2015 deemed Verizon as the winner of the Overall RootScore® Award in New York City and the Tri-State Area. RootMetrics®, an independent mobile analytics firm, calculates it’s rankings from a combination of tests that are weighted to reflect the impact that a consumer would experience.

This accolade comes right on the heels of the additional third party studies that ranked Verizon Wireless highest network quality in the New York Metropolitan area.

New Yorkers demand the very best, and Verizon Wireless customers know they are on the fastest and most reliable network.
