The Verizon Wireless Communications Store in Springfield, Mo., is one of 193 Verizon facilities nationwide to be awarded the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) prestigious ENERGY STAR certification.

In order to be energy efficient, the Springfield – South Verizon Wireless Communications store located at 1286 East Battlefield Road, utilizes ENERGY STAR certified equipment, including energy efficient lighting, light-emitting diode (LED) exit signs and motion sensors to activate lighting in portions of the store that are not in constant use, such as the storage rooms and back offices.  Additional energy saving initiatives include insulating water heaters and piping; properly sealing the entire building structure and entry doors to prevent the loss of heated or cooled air; the use of HVAC time-controlled units; and offering a range of consumer products and innovations to help reduce and monitor home energy use and consumption.

Verizon Wireless’ Springfield – South store is estimated to be 10 percent more efficient saving money, energy and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.  The ENERGY STAR energy performance rating system provides a 1-to-100 point scale that helps organizations assess how efficiently their buildings use energy relative to similar buildings nationwide.

In all, 193 Verizon facilities earned ENERGY STAR certification by the end of 2014 – 177 Verizon Wireless retail stores and 16 other Verizon facilities across the United States.  The U.S. EPA recognized Verizon with a 2015 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year – Sustained Excellence Award for its continued leadership in protecting the environment through superior energy efficiency achievements. This is the third consecutive year that Verizon has received a Partner of the Year honor from the U.S. EPA.
