Backup Assistant FAQs

General Information

  1. What is Backup Assistant, and what devices can use it?

Backup AssistantSM saves your contacts on a secure website, so you can easily transfer your saved contacts to a new device when needed.

It's primarily used for certain basic phones and older smartphones and tablets.

  2. What devices are compatible with Backup Assistant?

Most devices use Verizon Cloud instead of Backup Assistant. Verizon Cloud can back up your contacts, as well as your pictures, videos and more.

However, certain basic phones and older devices aren't compatible with Verizon Cloud, so you can use Backup Assistant on these devices to save and transfer your contacts. Learn how to verify if your device is compatible with Backup Assistant or Verizon Cloud.

  3. How do I get Backup Assistant?

Backup Assistant comes already installed on most compatible devices.

If you don’t see it on your basic phone, refer to our steps on how to download Backup Assistant on a basic phone.

If you don't see it on your smartphone, search for "Backup Assistant" in your device's app store and follow the onscreen prompts to download it. If you don't see the Backup Assistant app in your app store, your device is likely not compatible.

  6. Can I use Backup Assistant with more than one device?

No, your Backup Assistant account can be associated with only one device at a time.

  7. During setup, why does Backup Assistant show a different number than the phone number I use for my mobile device?

Your device actually has two numbers with which it is associated: the Mobile Internal Number (MIN) and the Mobile Directory Number (MDN). Backup Assistant should only use the MDN for the service to perform correctly.

In most cases these numbers are identical, but if they differ, you should select No when Backup Assistant shows you the incorrect number during the number verification process. A text message will be sent to your device to identify the correct number. When your correct number is shown, select Yes to continue the installation.

Standard text messaging rates apply according to your messaging plan.

  8. What are the Pending and Backed up numbers in Backup Assistant?

On the main screen of Backup Assistant on your device, there are the following numbers:

    • Pending - This red number is the total number of changes that you've made to your contacts since the last backup. If the number is 0, your contacts are completely backed up.
    • Backed up - This green number is the total number of contacts that are safely backed up in your account.

  9. I accidentally deleted a number from my contacts. Can I use Backup Assistant to get it back?
