  1. What is Backup Assistant Plus?

    Backup Assistant Plus is an online cloud backup service that was replaced by Verizon Cloud in April 2013. Verizon Cloud provides a secure, online storage cloud where you can back up contacts, photos, music, videos, documents, messages and call logs. The Verizon Cloud app also offers a variety of features that weren't available with Backup Assistant Plus.

    If you've been using Backup Assistant Plus on your Androidâ„¢ or iOS device, we highly recommend you download and install Verizon Cloud.

  2. I have been a Backup Assistant Plus user. Why should I upgrade to Verizon Cloud?

    Verizon Cloud is the evolution of the Backup Assistant Plus service and is compatible with a larger number of devices and mobile operating systems. Like Backup Assistant Plus, Verizon Cloud lets you back up your contacts, photos, videos and music, but Verizon Cloud will also back up your text messages, media messages and call logs.

    Verizon Cloud offers several ways to access your content, such as:

    • On your compatible Android smartphones & tablets
    • iOS devices (includes iPhone® & iPad®)
    • The Verizon Cloud desktop app
    • Online through My Verizon on your computer (Windows®, Mac®, Linux®)

    If you've been using Backup Assistant Plus on your Android or iOS device, we highly recommend you download and install Verizon Cloud from the app store on your device. If you're currently subscribed to the free Backup Assistant Plus option (500 MB of free storage), you'll automatically be upgraded to an account with Contacts-only free storage when you download and install the Verizon Cloud app on your Android or iOS device.

    You can upgrade from the Verizon Cloud app or add the feature from the Products & Apps page in My Verizon.

     

  3. What happens to my content in Backup Assistant Plus when I upgrade to Verizon Cloud?

    If you currently subscribe to Backup Assistant Plus, all your contacts, photos, videos, music and documents will automatically transfer over when you activate Verizon Cloud. Plus, with Verizon Cloud, you'll be able to back up your text messages, media messages and call logs.

  4. How do I know if I’m eligible to subscribe to Verizon Cloud?

    If you have an active Verizon Wireless account, you're eligible to subscribe to Verizon Cloud.

    To check if your phone is supported, open the app store on your device and search for Verizon Cloud. If the app is listed in the search results, your device is compatible. You can download the Cloud app from the app store if it's not already on your device.

    There are several ways you can access your content on Verizon Cloud:

    • On your compatible Android smartphones & tablets
    • iOS devices (includes iPhone & iPad)
    • The Verizon Cloud desktop application
    • Using My Verizon on a computer (Windows, Mac, Linux) with an internet connection

    As long as you have access to the internet and one of the device types mentioned above, you can subscribe.

  5. How do I download files from Backup Assistant Plus to my phone?

    To download a file from your online storage:

    1. Open the Backup Assistant Plus mobile app.
    2. Select the menu option of the content type (e.g., music, pictures, videos, documents) you'd like to download. Or if you're not sure, select the Browse All Files menu option.
    3. Navigate to the file you want to download. Touch and hold or long-press on the file.
    4. From the available options, select Download.

      Note: If multiple files have to be downloaded, press the Menu option and choose Select. Then select multiple files and press the Download option again.

    You've successfully downloaded a file to your phone.

  6. Can I post files to Facebook® from the Backup Assistant Plus mobile app?

    Yes, you can post files to Facebook from the Backup Assistant Plus mobile app. Once you enter your credentials during the setup process, posting takes just a few steps to select the file and then select the desired location to post it.

  7. Does it cost me anything to upload or download a file to my phone with the Backup Assistant Plus mobile app?

    If your device is connected to Wi-Fi, no data charges will apply when uploading or downloading a file with your phone. If you're connected to the Verizon Wireless network, data charges may apply according to your data plan.

  8. Can I use the Backup Assistant Plus desktop app to upload a file to my online storage?

    The Backup Assistant desktop app is no longer available and has been replaced by the Verizon Cloud desktop app. You can upload files to your online storage with the Verizon Cloud desktop app. To learn more about Verizon Cloud visit our Verizon Cloud FAQs and How to Use Guide.

  9. What file formats can I upload to Backup Assistant Plus online storage?

    Backup Assistant Plus supports each of the major content types, including photos, videos, music and documents. Within each content type, the service supports a wide range of formats, including the following:

  10. How do I upload files on my computer to Backup Assistant Plus online storage using the Backup Assistant Plus website?

    The Backup Assistant Plus website has been replaced by the Verizon Cloud website. You can upload files to your online storage using the Verizon Cloud website. Learn how to upload files from the Verizon Cloud website by visiting the Verizon Cloud How to Use Guide.

  11. What happens when I upload a file that has the same name as a file already saved to my Backup Assistant Plus online storage?

    Backup Assistant Plus includes a versioning feature. The feature is automatically applied when you upload a file containing the same name as a file already stored in your online storage account. Backup Assistant Plus can store up to five different versions of a single file. Select Versions from the option menu next to the file name on the Verizon Cloud site.

  12. How do I know if a file can be shared or posted with Backup Assistant Plus?

    Files that are copyright protected can't be shared or posted. Files that are copyright protected are easily identified with a Lock icon.

  13. Can I use my existing Facebook® credentials when posting from Backup Assistant Plus?

    Yes, the credentials you use to login to Facebook should also be used when you configure Backup Assistant Plus to support your desired connection.

  14. If I get a new phone, what happens to the files I have saved to my Backup Assistant Plus online storage account?

    Whenever you change phones, your online storage will continue to be available to you. On newer devices, Backup Assistant Plus has been replaced by Verizon Cloud. Your content will still be available if you've been using Backup Assistant Plus and you switch to a device with Verizon Cloud.

  15. What happens if I cancel my subscription to Backup Assistant Plus? Will I lose all the files I stored online?

    If you decide to cancel your subscription to Backup Assistant Plus, we strongly recommend that you first download all your files to your computer or a portable storage device. Once your cancellation request has been processed, you'll no longer have access to the Backup Assistant Plus service, including the files you had stored online.

  16. How do I know if a file is stored on my phone or in my Backup Assistant Plus online storage account?

    The main menu in the Backup Assistant Plus mobile app includes an option called My Phone. When selected, this menu option will display all the media saved to your phone. Other options on this main menu are titled "Pictures" or "Videos," for example, and will display files of each media type stored online when selected.

  17. How do I know what Backup Assistant Plus folder uploaded files will be stored in?

    When uploading an individual file, Backup Assistant Plus will save the file to the online folder that supports the file type. For example, if a picture is uploaded, it will be saved to the Pictures folder. Then, when you access your online storage and select the Pictures folder, the file will be listed.

  18. When sharing content via Backup Assistant Plus, how do I know if it will be in a text or an email?

    The message composer automatically generates the type of message based on the contact information you enter. For example, if you enter a mobile number, Backup Assistant Plus will create a text message, if an email address is entered, then an email is created.

    This feature is especially handy when sharing content with multiple individuals and the destinations are mobile numbers and email addresses. Select the locations from the integrated address book, enter the message and Backup Assistant Plus takes care of the rest.

  19. Can I share a file as an attachment with Backup Assistant Plus?

    Yes, simply select the file and click Send as an Attachment. Once you enter the email address, an email will be sent with the selected file attached.

  20. Does Backup Assistant Plus include an address book? Is it different from my Backup Assistant address book?

    You can manually enter an email address or mobile number when sharing. Or you can select a contact from the integrated Backup Assistant address book if you've configured one in advance.

    If you have a Backup Assistant address book, you can configure Backup Assistant Plus to use that address book by default. Contacts you've stored locally on your phone or computer would need to be imported first before you'll be able to use them with the Backup Assistant Plus service. You can import contacts in bulk to the Verizon Cloud website.

  21. Can I download an album or playlist to my computer with Backup Assistant Plus?

    Backup Assistant Plus supports the ability to download one file at a time or an entire playlist or album. When a playlist or album is downloaded, Backup Assistant Plus will ZIP the file and save it to your computer.

  22. Do I have to wait for the entire movie to be downloaded to my phone by Backup Assistant Plus before I can begin watching it?

    No, as soon as you select the movie, the movie should automatically begin to play within approximately 2 seconds.

  23. Can I download a file to my computer that I uploaded from my phone with Backup Assistant Plus?

    Yes, as long as the file format is supported by Backup Assistant Plus, you should be able to play back a file regardless of the location the file was originally uploaded from.

  24. How do I know how much Backup Assistant Plus online storage I have used? How do I add more online storage?

    On the Backup Assistant Plus mobile app and tablet app, a storage meter is available that describes the amount of online storage used, versus the amount of online storage in your subscription. This meter is also on the Verizon Cloud website.

    If you'd like to add more online storage, simply select the upgrade option and follow the prompts.

  25. Can I use Backup Assistant Plus to set the default location where downloads are saved on my phone?

    If your phone supports both internal and external memory, you can select one or the other as the default download location.

  26. Are the sign-in credentials for Backup Assistant Plus the same as I use when I sign in to My Verizon?

    Yes, to sign in to Backup Assistant Plus, use your mobile number and your My Verizon Password.

    You must use your own mobile number, not the number or User ID for anyone else on the account, to access your Backup Assistant Plus content. The Account Owner can only access the Backup Assistant Plus content they've backed up from their device. They can't access the content associated with any other lines on their account.

    If you change your My Verizon Password, you'll need to sign in to Backup Assistant Plus with the new Password.

  27. Can other individuals on my Verizon Wireless account access my Backup Assistant Plus online storage account?

    No, each Backup Assistant Plus online storage account is tied to an individual mobile number. Only the person with the My Verizon credentials tied to that mobile number can access the Backup Assistant Plus account.

    If you want to manage the content of a different mobile number, you'll need to sign in to My Verizon with that mobile number and password, or create a new My Verizon account if it doesn't already exist.
