Bring Your Own Device Using an eSIM FAQs

If you have a smartphone with a built-in eSIM, you can now conveniently sign up for Verizon service directly from the My Verizon app without needing to call customer service or visit a Verizon store to get a physical SIM card. Additionally, if you port your number from a competitive carrier, you're eligible to receive a $150 prepaid MasterCard®.


  1. Who can bring their device to Verizon using eSIM?

    You can enroll with an eSIM if you meet the following qualifications:

    • You have an Apple┬« iPhone┬« XS, iPhone XS Max or iPhone XR running iOS 12.1.1 or later;
    • You're in an area that has Verizon Wireless coverage and;
    • Your iPhone is currently unlocked
      • We'll check to make sure you phone is unlocked and eligible to sign up when going through the activation process in the My Verizon app
      • If you bought your iPhone from your current carrier or other retailers, you'll need to contact them to unlock your phone
      • If you bought your iPhone directly from Apple, you may need to contact your carrier to have your phone unlocked
  2. How do I sign up for Verizon service using the eSIM in the device I'm bringing?

    To enroll, download the My Verizon app and follow the instructions on the screens. Use the information below for help, or visit our How to Use Guide for additional information:

    1. Download the My Verizon app from the App Store.
    2. Tap the My Verizon icon to open it.
    3. Once the My Verizon app opens, tap Join Now.
    4. Locate your Digital SIM IMEI:
      • Tap Settings
      • Tap General
      • Tap About
      • Scroll to your Digital SIM IMEI, then tap and hold to Copy
    5. Enter your Digital SIM IMEI
      • Return to the My Verizon app
      • Tap the field for Digital SIM IMEI Number
      • Tap and hold to Paste your SIM IMEI
      • Tap Check eligibility
    6. On the next screen tap Let's Go
    7. You'll proceed through a series of screens with steps to activate Verizon service:
      • Choose your location
      • Review and pick a plan
      • Select a phone number
      • Enter your account, billing, and payment information
      • Complete a credit check
      • Create a PIN
      • Agree to the Customer Agreement
      • Review the information you entered
      After you finish navigating through the screens, you'll need to activate your eSIM:

    8. Check your email on another device (computer, tablet, etc.) for a confirmation message from Verizon that contains a QR code.
    9. Use your iPhone to scan the QR code:
      • Tap Settings
      • Tap Cellular
      • Tap Add Cellular Plan
      • Scan the QR code from your email
      • You'll be taken to a new set of screens to set up your account
  3. What phone number do I get when I bring my device to Verizon using eSIM?

    When switching to Verizon, you can either port your existing number over from your current carrier, or you can elect to have a new number assigned to you. You'll be able to pick which option is best for you while completing the set up screens.

    Note: To qualify for the $150 bring your own device promo, you must port your number to Verizon from your existing carrier.

  4. What plan should I pick when bringing my own device using eSIM?

  5. How long does it take for me to connect to the Verizon network for the first time after signing up using eSIM?

    It can take up to up to 15 minutes for your phone to connect to the Verizon network for the first time. Please don't attempt to activate service again while waiting to connect to service.

    If after 15 minutes your service is not activated, try contacting us for help.

  6. How will I know that I'm connected to the Verizon network after I sign up using eSIM?

    Opening the Control Center will show that your connected to the Verizon network, along with your signal strength. To access the Control Center:

    • From an iPhone XS Max, iPhone XS or iPhone XR: Swipe down from the top right corner of your display
  7. How can I manage my account after I bring my own device using eSIM?

    After you sign up for service you can manage your account through the My Verizon app or from My Verizon online. My Verizon allows you to do things like view and pay your bill, change your plan and upgrade your device.

Bring Your Own Device Promotion

  1. What are the rules to receive the $150 prepaid MasterCard, and who is qualified for it?

    To qualify for the $150 prepaid MasterCard promotion, you must:

    • Bring your own phone (device payment and 2-year contracts are not eligible)
    • Port your phone number from another carrier
    • Remain active for 45 consecutive days
    • Sign up with any postpaid plan

    You must remain enrolled with Verizon for 6 months to avoid a possible chargeback.

  2. What do I need to submit to get the $150 prepaid MasterCard, and how long does it take to receive it?

    Within 30 days of signing up, you need to go to and fill out your purchase date and phone number. Then click Bring your 4G Smartphone. Get $150.

    You'll get your gift card within 8 weeks of submitting your information.

  3. Can the $150 prepaid MasterCard promo be combined with other Verizon offers?

    No, the promo cannot be combined with other offers.

  4. I'm bringing over multiple devices to Verizon, do I get a $150 prepaid MasterCard for each device?

    Yes, as long as each device meets the promo eligibility.

  5. Can I get a device from Verizon and still receive the $150 prepaid MasterCard promo?

    No, you must bring your own device to get the $150 prepaid MasterCard promo.
