General Information

  1. What is Caller ID?

    Caller ID displays the caller's phone number (for all unblocked numbers) on your phone. It may also show the name of the person if it's already been stored in your phone's memory. Caller ID is included with all plans.

    Other enhanced Caller ID services display the name, picture, city or state for incoming and / or outgoing calls:

  2. What is Caller ID Blocking?

    Caller ID Blocking blocks your number from being displayed through Caller ID either permanently or temporarily. It's a free service.

    Note: You can't block your number from appearing when calling certain numbers, such as 800 numbers and 911.

  3. What's the benefit of using Caller ID Blocking?

    Caller ID Blocking protects your privacy by not displaying your phone number to the people you call.

Blocking Calls

  1. How do I block Caller ID for a specific call?

    You have the option to block Caller ID either temporarily or permanently.

    To block your number from being displayed temporarily for a specific call:

    1. Enter *67.
    2. Enter the number you wish to call (including area code).
    3. Tap Call. The words "Private," "Anonymous," or some other indicator will appear on the recipient's phone instead of your mobile number.

    You've successfully blocked Caller ID for a specific call.

    Note: Calls to 800 numbers and 911 won't use Caller ID Blocking.

  2. I have to call a number that doesn't allow blocked calls. How do I unblock Caller ID to a certain number?

    To deactivate Caller ID Blocking for a specific number:

    1. Enter *82.
    2. Enter the number.
    3. Tap Call.

    You've successfully deactivated Caller ID Blocking for a specific number.

  3. How do I block Caller ID on all my calls?

    You can turn on Caller ID Block with the My Verizon app or online to prevent people you call from seeing your mobile number.

    The My Verizon App

    1. Tap the menu in the top left to open it.
    2. Tap Devices.
    3. Find the device you want to add Caller ID Blocking to and tap Manage.
    4. Tap Controls.
    5. Tap Adjust Service blocks.
    6. Find Caller ID Blocking and tap the switch so it's green.

    You have successfully turned on Caller ID Blocking.

    Online

    1. Go to the Blocks page in My Verizon.

      Note: If you have more than one line on your account, select the line you want to block Caller ID for.

    2. Tap or click Block Services.
    3. If you're on a smartphone, tap Add. Otherwise skip this step.
    4. Under Additional Services find Caller ID Blocking and select On.
    5. Tap or click Submit Changes.

    You have successfully turned on Caller ID Blocking.

    Note: Only the Account Owner or Account Manager can block or unblock Caller ID. Learn more about account access roles.

  4. Can I block numbers that I choose from calling me?

    Yes, you can block calls from specific numbers using our Call and Message Blocking feature in My Verizon, or by subscribing to Verizon Smart Family™ (formerly FamilyBase®). Call and Message Blocking is a temporary feature that lasts up to 90 days. After this period, the block has to be reapplied. For a permanent solution, subscribe to Verizon Smart Family.

    To stop frequent spam and robocalls from unknown numbers, Caller Name ID is our most effective solution because you can use a block list or spam filter to automatically block all unwanted spam calls from reaching you.

  5. Can I block a restricted number from calling me?

    Yes, if you subscribe to Verizon Smart Family, you can block a restricted number from calling you. To block a restricted or private number from calling you:

    1. Open the Verizon Smart Family app on your device.
    2. Go to a Family Members dashboard.
    3. Tap Contacts.
    4. Tap Blocked contacts.
    5. Tap Block a number.
    6. Enter the contact, then tap Save.
    7. Select Block private and restricted texts and calls to enable the block.

    You've successfully blocked restricted numbers.

  6. If an incoming call has a blocked number, can I see the number on the Call Detail section of my bill?

    No, this information isn't available for privacy reasons. "Unavailable" will display instead of the phone number.

Blocking Text, Picture & Video Messages

  1. Can I block text and multimedia messages?

    Yes, text and multimedia messages can be blocked. To block messages:

    Online

    1. Go to the Blocks page in My Verizon.
      Note: If you have more than one device on your account, select the line you want to set the service block(s) for.
    2. Tap or click Block Services.
    3. If you're on a smartphone, tap Add. Otherwise skip this step.
    4. Under the Messaging section, choose the type of messaging block you want:
      • Block all messaging: Prevents the line from sending and receiving any kind of text message, including picture and video messages, PSMS (Premium Messages), EMS (Enhanced Messaging) and Mobile Web Alerts/other various alerts.
      • Block picture and video messaging: Prevents the line from sending and receiving any picture and video messages. You'll still be able to send and receive text messages.
    5. Tap or click Submit Changes.

    You've successfully blocked messaging.

    The My Verizon App

    1. Tap the menu in the top left to open it.
    2. Tap Devices.
    3. Find the device you want to add Caller ID Blocking to and tap Manage.
    4. Tap Controls.
    5. Tap Adjust Service blocks.
    6. Choose the type of messaging block you want and tap the switch so it's green:
