Samsung Galaxy S4 Transfer Content

Learn how to transfer pictures, videos and music between your phone and other devices. Did you know you can share content simply by touching two phones together? We'll show you how with Android Beam™ and S Beam™. Get steps on transferring files with a USB cable or from your phone's internal storage to the SD card. Find tips on resolving issues with Windows Device Manager.

  1. Transferring pictures or videos to the phone

    This helps when you want to transfer or move your picture/video files between your device and a computer/PC.

    Caution Only DRM free or unprotected video can be transferred via this method.

    Note Notes:

    1. Connect the device to a computer using the supplied USB cable.
    2. If necessary, touch and hold the Status bar (area at the top of the phone screen with the time, signal strength, etc.) then drag to the bottom.
    3. Tap the USB icon USB icon.
      Note The image below is only an example.
      Drag down usb
    4. Select Media device (MTP).
      Note Selected when a check mark is present.
      USB options
    5. Launch File Explorer or Windows Explorer on the computer.
      Note Using the computer keyboard, press Windows+E (windows key logo+E) keys.
      Note Alternatively, right-click Start then click Open File Explorer or Windows Explorer.
    6. Using Explorer, navigate to then copy the desired picture or video files.
      Note The default location for pictures or videos can be accessed by navigating: Libraries > "Pictures" or 'Videos".
    7. Using Explorer, access the device folders by navigating: SCH-I545 > "Card" or "Phone" then select one of the following folders:
      Note SCH-I545 is listed under the Portable Devices or This PC section.
      • DCIM
      • Pictures
      • Movies
    8. Use the computer to move the files into the preferred device folder.
    9. Disconnect the USB cable from the computer.

    Caution NFC may not function properly with the use of a third-party battery. To ensure functionality, only utilize the Samsung designed battery with Near Field Communication printed on the battery label.

    1. From a Home screen, navigate: Apps > Settings.
      Note These instructions apply to Standard mode only.
    2. Tap More networks.
      Note If unavailable, tap the Menu icon Menu (located at the bottom-left) then tap Switch to list view.
    3. Ensure NFC switch is set to ONSwtich on.
    4. Tap the Android™ Beam switch.
      • On (Android™ Beam is enabled)
      • Off (Android™ Beam is disabled)

    2. Ensure the content to be shared (e.g. website, video, etc.) is open and visible on the display.
    3. Align the two devices so they are back-to-back.
    4. Select Touch to beam.
      Note If the device receiving the data doesn't have the necessary application to view it, the Android™ Market will launch to an application download page.

    Start Device Manager.

    • Windows 10
      • Right-Click Start > Device Manager.
    • Windows 8
      • Right-Click Start Screen > All Apps > Control Panel > System and Security > Device Manager.
    • Windows 7
      • Click Start > Control Panel > System and Security > Device Manager.

    For detailed instructions and older operating systems, refer to Opening Windows Device Manager.

    The following devices are normally installed:
    Note Depending upon the selected USB connection (e.g., Media device, Camera), some of the devices may not appear.

    Modems
    SAMSUNG Mobile USB Modem
    Portable Devices
    SCH-I545
    Universal Serial Bus controllers
    SAMSUNG Mobile USB Composite Device

    Note If a red X, yellow ! or yellow ? is displayed to the left of a listed device, a conflict is present and the drivers must be updated or reinstalled.
    Note Driver conflicts may also be indicated by a device entry labeled Other Devices or Unknown.

    If a conflict is present:

    1. Right-click the device then click Update Driver Software.
    2. Click Browse my computer for driver software.
    3. Enter C:\Windows\System 32\Drivers in the search field then click Next.
      Note The driver location can be entered manually or navigated to by clicking Browse.
      Note If the driver software is not found, a Windows Operating System update may be needed.
    4. Click Close.
