Google Nexus 7 Software Update

Verizon Wireless is pleased to announce a software update for your device. This software update has been tested to help optimize device performance, resolve known issues and apply the latest security patches.

Before you download:

  • Connect your device to a Wi-Fi network, or make sure it has a strong Verizon Wireless network connection.
  • Ensure your battery is fully charged before starting the software update.

System Update Instructions

To help you with the software update for your Google Nexus 7, the following information is available:

  • Software Update Instructions - User and Network Initiated
  • Software Update while you're roaming

Here are a few facts to keep in mind:

  • Estimated software download time - approximately 6-10 minutes
  • Estimated software update time - approximately 6-10 minutes

Software Update Instructions - User Initiated

This process allows a user to navigate through the device options to seek updates.

  1. From the Home screen, tap Menu > Settings > About tablet > System updates.

    When your download is complete, a screen will appear advising that the new version of software is ready to be installed. Tap Install now.

  2. When a software update is available, it will show the software update page, once download is complete tap Restart & install to install OTA package. If no software update is available, it will display Your system is up to date.

  3. The device will power down and power back on. A screen will appear stating that the installation has been completed. Tap OK.

Software Update Instructions - Network Initiated

  1. You'll be notified that a software update is available for your device. Tap Install now to continue. Your device will power off then power on and the installation will begin.

  2. After you've received the first software update notification, you can manually initiate the process by going to Menu > Settings > About Tablet > System updates. Tap "Restart & install." Your device will power off and back on and the installation process will begin.

  3. The update has begun once your device powers off and back on and you see the following screen.

Software Update While You Are Roaming

If you're roaming you won't receive a software update notice. To update your device while you're roaming, you'll need to be in an area where Wi-Fi is available.

  1. Start by enabling Wi-Fi on your device. In Wireless & Networks go to Settings, tap Wi-Fi ON to enable (if not already enabled).

  2. Tap Wi-Fi to view and select a Wi-Fi network. Once you're connected, an update notification will appear on your device.

If the software update fails to install, you'll get an error screen. However, this only means the software did not install properly. Power the device on and off and you'll be prompted once again to install the software update.
