How to Use Guide: Backup Assistant/Backup Assistant Plus Contacts

Step 1

Verify that Your Device Is Compatible

    Smartphones and tablets

Many devices come with Backup Assistant already installed. Look for Backup Assistant in your device's App menu. If it's listed, your device is compatible and the app is installed. Tap on the app to open it and skip to step 3 of this guide.

If Backup Assistant isn't in your App menu, go to the app store on your device (e.g., Google Play™, Windows® Phone Store, etc.), and search for Backup Assistant.

    • If Backup Assistant or Backup Assistant Plus appears in the search results, your device is compatible. Continue to step 2 of this guide.

    • If Verizon Cloud appears in the search results, your device is compatible with our cloud service. Refer to our Verizon Cloud FAQs for information on how to use it to back up and transfer your contacts.

If neither Backup Assistant nor Verizon Cloud appears in the search results, refer to our Contact Transfer Wizard to learn how to transfer contacts to your new device.

Step 6

    Troubleshoot

The information below is general troubleshooting. For troubleshooting specific to a device, you can refer to the Community Forum. This is a helpful place to find solutions or post your own questions.

    Address book field issues

While most address book fields are supported by Backup Assistant, there are some address book fields and settings that aren't. The following fields and settings aren't supported because there's no app read or write access, and they won't be backed up with Backup Assistant:

    • Groups / Category
    • Ringer
    • SMS Ringer
    • Picture ID
    • Secret
    • Speed Dial
    • Voice Dial

If you do a restore of your contacts, the backed up fields will be synced to your device and all the non-supported fields above will be empty. You'll need to re-enter these for each contact.

Backup Assistant web issues / constraints

Following these requirements will help prevent error notices when you enter and back up contact information.

    • Valid phone field characters: 0123456789*#PT
    • Valid email field characters: Must contain @ and "."
    • Required contact information:
      • First name or last name or company name
      • Phone number or email address

The Backup Assistant Service may be terminated immediately without liability upon sending notice to the email address you provided during your registration. You may end your use of the Backup Assistant Service at any time by terminating service with Verizon Wireless or removing the Backup Assistant app from your device. No refunds shall be granted for any fees paid in advance. Upon termination you will no longer have access to data, messages, files and other material you previously stored.
