How to Use Guide: Verizon Security & Privacy App

The Verizon Security & Privacy app is available for Android® (4.1 or later). If you aren't sure which Android OS version you have, refer to our Android OS FAQs.

The Verizon Security & Privacy app can:

  • Provide a single security solution for all your devices that you can manage right from your Android phone
  • Help protect your device from malware and viruses
  • Help protect you from malicious websites when searching the web
  • Alert you when apps are accessing your private information

Note: Verizon Security & Privacy Multi-Device extends this security service to all your eligible devices.

Download and Install

    Download Security & Privacy

    Security & Privacy is preloaded on Verizon Android phones, and it's located in your Verizon apps folder. If you can't find the app on your device:

    1. Open the Google Play™ Store app on your device.
    2. Tap the Search icon.
    3. Enter "Verizon Security & Privacy" and tap the Search icon again.
    4. Select Verizon Security & Privacy from the search results.

      Note: If you don't see Verizon Security & Privacy listed in the search results, your device may not be compatible.

    5. You'll see one of the following buttons on the screen:
      • OPEN - This means the app is already on your device, and you can tap this button to open the app.

      • ENABLE - This means the app is on your device, but it has been disabled. Tap this button to enable the app, and then tap OPEN to open the app.

      • INSTALL - This means the app isn't currently on your device and needs to be downloaded. Tap this button and then tap ACCEPT to begin downloading. Once the app has finished installing, tap OPEN to open the app.

    You've successfully downloaded Verizon Security & Privacy.

    Upgrade to Security & Privacy Multi-Device

    To upgrade to Security & Privacy Multi-Device:

    1. Open the Security & Privacy app on the Verizon Account Owner's phone.
    2. Tap Protect More Devices at the bottom of the screen.
    3. Follow the onscreen prompts to complete the transaction.

    You've successfully upgraded to Security & Privacy Multi-Device.

    Install Security & Privacy on Other Devices

    Once you upgrade to Security & Privacy Multi-Device, you can protect an unlimited number of devices.

    To install Security & Privacy on other devices:

    1. Open the Verizon Security & Privacy app on your phone.
    2. Tap Protect More Devices at the bottom of the screen.
    3. Tap + to add a device.
    4. Enter the email address or mobile number of the device you want to protect (Windows®, Mac®, or Android).
    5. Click Send Link or Send Text.
    6. Open the email or text on the device you want to protect.
    7. Tap the link in the text or click the Download button in the email.
    8. Click Download and follow the onscreen prompts to finish downloading.

Using the App

    Modify the Virus and Malware Scan Settings

    To change the scan settings:

    1. Open the Verizon Security & Privacy app on your device.
    2. Tap Security scan.
    3. Tap the Settings icon (gear) in the bottom left corner of the screen.
    4. Modify the scan settings as desired.
    5. Tap the Back button to save your changes.

    You've successfully modified the virus and malware scan settings.

    Manually Scan for Viruses

    You can scan for viruses manually at any time:

    1. Open the Verizon Security & Privacy app.
    2. Tap Security scan.
    3. Tap Scan for Viruses.

    You'll see a Verizon Security & Privacy icon appear in the Notification Panel. You've successfully scanned your device for viruses.

    Check Data Exposure
    1. Open the Verizon Security & Privacy app.
    2. Tap Privacy.
    3. Tap Check data exposure.
    4. Tap Get Started.

    You'll see a list of apps sorted by the amount of information they can access. You can select any app in the list to change its data permissions.

    Disable Web Security

    Web security is on by default and provides valuable warnings about sites that host malware or are known phishing sites. We recommend you keep this feature on. However, if you wish to disable Web security:

    1. Open the Verizon Security & Privacy app.
    2. Tap Web security.
    3. Tap the Settings icon (gear) at the bottom of the screen.
    4. Tap Web security.
    5. Tap the Web security switch to turn it off.

    You've successfully disabled Web security.

    Manage Wi-Fi Networks

    Manage Wi-Fi networks is a setting that lets you edit your saved Wi-Fi networks that are always blocked or always allowed.

    These lists prevent your device from connecting to networks that you know are unprotected to safeguard your personal data. It also lets your device automatically connect to trusted networks to avoid unnecessary data usage.

    To edit your saved Wi-Fi preferences:

    1. Open the Verizon Security & Privacy app.
    2. Tap Wi-Fi security.
    3. Tap Manage Wi-Fi networks.

      • To unblock a network:

        1. Tap Blocked networks.
        2. Select the networks you’d like to unblock.
        3. Tap Remove at the bottom of the screen.

      • To remove an allowed network:

        1. Tap Allowed networks.
        2. Select the networks you’d like to delete.
        3. Tap Remove at the bottom of the screen.

    You've successfully edited your saved Wi-Fi preferences.

    Disable Wi-Fi Security

    Wi-Fi security is on by default and provides valuable warnings about unsecure Wi-Fi networks. We recommend you keep this feature on.

    However, if you wish to disable Wi-Fi security:

    1. Open the Verizon Security & Privacy app.
    2. Tap Web security.
    3. Tap the Settings icon (gear) at the bottom of the screen.
    4. Tap Web security.
    5. Tap the Wi-Fi security switch to turn it off.

    You've successfully disabled Wi-Fi security.

    Modify Your Device Permissions

    Unless you've accidentally changed the permissions on your device for the Verizon Security & Privacy app, you shouldn't need to change them.

    To modify your device administration permissions:

    1. Open the Apps menu on your device and tap Settings.
    2. Tap Lock screen and security.
    3. Tap Other security settings.
    4. Tap Phone administrators.

    If the switch next to Verizon Security & Privacy is set to ON (or if the box is checked), then you have device administration permissions turned on. You can tap the switch to OFF (or uncheck the box) to turn off permissions, which will disable the app.

    You've successfully modified the device administrator permissions.
