How to Use Guide: Verizon Tones

With Verizon Tones you can download, manage, preview and buy ringtones and Ringback Tones from our extensive catalog of over 100,000 ringtones, Ringback Tones and Playlists. Verizon Tones is available through the Verizon Tones app on your phone or through text message. You can also get Ringback Tones in our online Media Store. Learn how to access Verizon Tones.

A Ringback Tone is what callers hear when they call your number. This is different than a ringtone, which is what you hear when your phone rings. Here are a few things you can do with Ringback Tones:

  • Purchase up to 100 Ringback Tones
  • Set Ringback Tones for up to 25 different callers
  • Schedule a Ringback Tone for a specific time of day or day of the week
  • Create up to 5 Playlists with up to 15 Ringback Tones in each one
  • Create up to 5 groups with up to 10 phone numbers in each group*

*Each group can be assigned a specific Ringback Tone or Playlist. Groups don't count toward the 25 individual caller IDs you can set.

Adding and Accessing Tones

    Add Ringback Tones

    To add the Verizon Ringback Tones service to your account, you can subscribe to it from the Verizon Tones mobile app or through the Ringback Tones Media Store on a computer.

    From the Verizon Tones app:

    1. Download the Verizon Tones app.
    2. Browse available music tones, then select an item to purchase.
    3. The Ringback Tones Subscription page will display with details of the service.
    4. Click Subscribe to Ringback Tones to start your Ringback Tones service.

    Online:

    1. Go to the Media Store.
    2. Click Sign In.
    3. Browse available music tones, then select an item to purchase.
    4. The Ringback Tone Subscription page will display with details of the service.
    5. Click Subscribe to Ringback Tones to start your Ringback Tone service.

    You've successfully added Ringback Tones to your account.

    Access Verizon Tones

    You can access Verizon Tones:

    On Your Phone:

    Android® Smartphones

    In most cases, Verizon Tones comes preloaded on your phone. If it's not found in the Apps menu, download it from Google Play™ Store. To download Verizon Tones to your Android phone:

    1. Tap the Play Store icon.
    2. Search for "Verizon Tones".
    3. Tap the Verizon Tones app.
    4. Tap INSTALL.
    5. Once installed, launch the app.

    Some Android smartphones aren't supported. Data usage may apply for app download and use.

    iPhone®

    1. Open the web browser (e.g., Safari®) on your iPhone.
    2. Tap the Search/URL field.
    3. Enter "vzw.com/rbt".
    4. Tap Go.
    5. To add the website to your Home screen for easy access, tap the Share icon to the left of the Search/URL field.
    6. Tap Add to Home Screen.
    7. Tap Add.

    Windows® Phone 8

    1. Tap the Store tile.
    2. Tap the Search icon at the bottom of the screen.
    3. Enter "Verizon Tones".
    4. Tap the Verizon Tones app.
    5. Tap INSTALL.
    6. Once installed, launch the app.

    Data usage may apply for app download and use.

    BlackBerry® Smartphones

    In most cases, Verizon Tones is preloaded on the phone and found on the Home screen. The app may also be located in the App Center folder of the phone. If the app isn't preloaded:

    1. Go to BlackBerry App World™.
    2. Download the VZW Tones app.
    3. Once installed, launch the app.

    Data usage may apply for app download and use.

    Basic Phones

    1. On your phone, select Media Store or Media Center.
    2. Select Apps.
    3. Select Music & Tones.
    4. Select Get New Ringtones.
    5. Select the Verizon Tones or V CAST Tones app.
    6. Once installed, you can launch the app.

    Data usage may apply for app download and use.

    Online:

    Navigate to the Media Store on your computer's browser to preview and purchase Ringback Tones.

    Text Message:

    1. From your device, text LIST to 728 on your messaging app to receive a top 10 list of content.
    2. Text the 3-digit short code matching the content you wish to purchase.

Content

    Browse Content

    There are multiple ways to find content using the Verizon Tones app on your phone. You can search for specific titles or artist content, or check out the latest in the What's New or What's Hot categories.

    Browse Using Search:

    1. Open the app and select Search.
    2. Search by artist or title.
    3. Using your keypad, enter an artist's name or the title of what you're looking for.

    Browse by What's Hot or What's New:

    Want to see the latest and greatest? Look through the "What's New" category to see newly released and recently added ringtones and Ringback Tones. Check out the "What's Hot" category for the best-selling ringtones and Ringback Tones.

    Browse Online:*

    1. Go to the Media Store.
    2. Click the Search Tracks & Artists field.
    3. Enter your search terms.
    4. Click the Search icon or Enter on your keyboard.
    5. When your search results display, click the Play icon in the bottom-right corner of the song graphic to preview the Ringback Tone.

    *Ringback Tones only.

     

    Preview and Purchase Content

    On Your Phone:

    1. Open the app and find the content you wish to preview.
    2. Tap Preview or Play to hear the preview.
    3. Tap Stop to stop play-back.
    4. Tap Clear or the Back key to return to the previous menu.
    5. Tap Buy.

      Note: You have the option to purchase the ringtone or Ringback Tone, if available. You can also choose to purchase both the ringtone* and Ringback Tone as a bundle at a discounted price.
    6. Tap Confirm or Purchase.

      Note: The Purchase Success screen will display. If you're using a different type of phone, the ringtone will already have been downloaded and saved to your phone.

    *Ringtone and Ringback Tone bundles are only available on the Verizon Tones app.

    Online:

    1. Go to the Media Store.
    2. Click the Search Tracks & Artists field.

      Note: If there's a Ringback Tone you want to preview on the Home page of the Media Store, hover over the song and then click the Play icon.

    3. Enter your search terms.
    4. Click the Search icon or press the Enter key on your keyboard.
    5. When your search results display, click Play in the bottom-right corner of the song graphic to preview it.
    6. Click Buy.
    7. Follow the prompts to complete your purchase.

    *Ringback Tones only. Ringtones are available only through the Verizon Tones app on your device.

Setting Tones

    Set Ringtones

    On most phones, Verizon Tones lets you set the purchased ringtone as your default ringtone from within the app. In some cases, you'll have to exit the app and set the ringtone from your phone's Settings menu.

    You can set a ringtone for a specific person from your Contacts by opening that contact. For more information, refer to your device's User Guide.

    Note: Verizon Tones is available on select devices. App availability and location on the device varies with device type.

    Set a Default Ringback Tone

    On Your Phone:

    If you've already purchased Ringback Tones:

    1. Open the Verizon Tones app.
    2. Tap Manage Ringback Tones.
    3. Tap My Ringback Tones.
    4. Tap the Ringback Tone you want to set as your default.
    5. Select Set as Default.

    Online:

    If you've already purchased Ringback Tones:

    1. From the Media Store home page, click the Manage Tones dropdown menu.
    2. Click Manage My Ringback Tones.

      Note: You must be signed in with your User ID and Password for My Verizon to access your Ringback Tones.

    3. Click Edit next to the song you want to set as your default.
    4. Click the Star icon.
    5. Click Apply Changes.
    6. Click the X icon in the top-right corner of the screen to close the Edit window.

    If you haven't purchased any Ringback Tones yet:

    1. Go to the Media Store.
    2. Hover over a Ringback Tone you want to purchase or search for one.
    3. Click Buy.

      Note: You must be signed in with your User ID and Password for My Verizon to purchase Ringback Tones.

    The purchased Ringback Tone will be set as your default, and the purchase will be added to your next Verizon Wireless bill.

    Set a Ringback Tone for a Specific Caller

    You can set a Ringback Tone for a caller with the Verizon Tones app or online.

    On Your Phone:

    1. Open the Verizon Tones app.
    2. Tap Manage Ringback Tones.
    3. Select one of your Ringback Tones or Playlists.
    4. Tap Assign to Contact.
    5. Select the desired contact from your address book.
    6. Tap OK.

    Online:

    1. From the Media Store home page, click the Manage Tones dropdown menu.
    2. Click Manage My Ringback Tones.

      Note: You must be signed in with your User ID and Password for My Verizon to access your Ringback Tones.

    3. Click MY CONTACTS.
    4. Click Add a Contact.

      Note: If the contact you want to set a Ringback Tone for is already added to your Ringback Tones Contacts, skip to step 7.

    5. Enter a contact name and phone number including area code.
    6. Click Create Contact.
    7. Your default Ringback Tone will automatically be set for the new contact. To change the Ringback Tone, click MY RINGBACK TONES.
    8. Next to the song you want to set for a contact, click Edit.
    9. Click the Person icon in the top-left corner of the pop-up window.
    10. Check the box next to the contact(s) you want to assign the Ringback Tone to.
    11. Click Apply Changes.
    12. Click the X in the top-right corner to close the Edit window.

Playlists

    Create a Ringback Tones Playlist

    A Playlist is a group of Ringback Tones that rotates each time you receive a call. There's no additional charge for the use of Playlist.

    You can create up to 5 Playlists per mobile number. Your 5 Playlists can be used independently of the 25 callers you set a Ringback Tone for, unless you set a Playlist for a specific caller.

    To create a Playlist you must first set up Ringback Tones. If you haven't already set up a Ringback Tone, refer to How to Set a Default Ringback Tone.

    There are 2 ways to create a Playlist: on your phone with the Verizon Tones app or online

    On Your Phone:

    1. Open the Verizon Tones app.
    2. Tap Manage Ringback Tones.
    3. Tap My Playlists.
    4. Tap Create New Playlist.
    5. Assign up to 15 Ringback Tones to the Playlist.
    6. Tap Save.
    7. Tap the My Settings tab to assign the Playlist to your default Ringback Tone or a specific caller.

    Online:

    1. From the Media Store home page, click the Manage Tones dropdown menu.
    2. Click Manage My Ringback Tones.

      Note: You must be signed in with your User ID and Password for My Verizon to access your Ringback Tones.

    3. Click Create Your Own Playlist.
    4. Enter a name for the new Playlist.
    5. Check the boxes next to up to 15 Ringback Tones to add them to your Playlist.
    6. Click Apply Changes.
    Set a Playlist for a Specific Caller

    You can set a Playlist for a caller on your phone with the Verizon Tones app or online.

    On Your Phone:

    1. Open the Verizon Tones app.
    2. Tap Manage Ringback Tones.
    3. Tap My Playlists.
    4. Tap on a Playlist.
    5. Tap Assign to Contact.
    6. Select the desired contact from your address book.
    7. Tap OK.

    Online:

    1. From the Media Store home page, click the Manage Tones dropdown menu.
    2. Click Manage My Ringback Tones.

      Note: You must be signed in with your User ID and Password for My Verizon to access your Ringback Tones.

    3. Click MY CONTACTS.
    4. Click Add a Contact.

      Note: If the contact you want to set a Ringback Tone for is already added to your Ringback Tones Contacts, skip to step 7.

    5. Enter a contact name and phone number including area code.
    6. Click Create Contact.
    7. Your default Ringback Tone will automatically be set for the new contact.

      Note: To change the Ringback Tone, click MY RINGBACK TONES.
    8. Next to the Playlist you want to set for a contact, click Edit.
    9. Click the Person icon in the top-left corner of the pop-up window.
    10. Check the box next to the contact(s) you want to assign the Playlist to.
    11. Click Apply Changes.
    12. Click the X in the top-right corner to close the Edit window.

Tones for Groups

    Create a Ringback Tones Group

    You can create a Ringback Tones Group online.

    Online:

    1. From the Media Store home page, click the Manage Tones dropdown menu.
    2. Click Manage My Ringback Tones.

      Note: You must be signed in with your User ID and Password for My Verizon to access your Ringback Tones.

    3. Click MY CONTACTS.
    4. Click Create a Contact Group.

      Note: To create a group you must first add contacts to your Ringback Tones Contact list. Refer to How to Set a Ringback Tone for a Specific Caller to learn how to do this.

    5. Check the box next to the contacts you want to add to the group.
    6. Enter a group name in the Contact Group Name field.
    7. Click Apply Changes.

    Note: You can't set a specific Ringback Tone for a contact that's in a group.

    Modify a Ringback Tones Group

    In the online Media Store you can:

    • Remove a contact from one group and add it to another
    • Delete a group
    • Change the name of a group

    To move a contact from one group to another:

    1. From the Media Store home page, click the Manage Tones dropdown menu.
    2. Click Manage My Ringback Tones.

      Note: You must be signed in with your User ID and Password for My Verizon to access your Ringback Tones.

    3. Click MY CONTACTS.
    4. Click the Group icon next to the group you want to edit.
    5. Check and uncheck boxes next to contacts you want in the group.
    6. Repeat this process to modify another group.

    To delete a group:

    1. From the Media Store home page, click the Manage Tones dropdown menu.
    2. Click Manage My Ringback Tones.

      Note: You must be signed in with your User ID and Password for My Verizon to access your Ringback Tones.

    3. Click MY CONTACTS.
    4. Click the Trash Can icon.
    5. Click Delete.

    To change the name of a group:

    1. From the Media Store home page, click the Manage Tones dropdown menu.
    2. Click Manage My Ringback Tones.

      Note: You must be signed in with your User ID and Password for My Verizon to access your Ringback Tones.

    3. Click MY CONTACTS.
    4. Click the Group icon next to the group you want to edit.
    5. Highlight the name of the group and enter a new name.
    6. Click Apply Changes.
    Set a Ringback Tone or Playlist for a Group

    Note: You can set a Ringback Tone or Playlist for a group online.

    Online:

    1. From the Media Store home page, click the Manage Tones dropdown menu.
    2. Click Manage My Ringback Tones.

      Note: You must be signed in with your User ID and Password for My Verizon to access your Ringback Tones.

    3. Click Edit next to the song or Playlist you want to set for a group.
    4. Click the Person icon in the top-left corner of the pop-up window.
    5. Check the box next to the group you want to assign the Playlist to.
    6. Click Apply Changes.
    7. Click the X in the top-right corner to close the Edit window.

Tones for Specific Days / Times

    Set a Ringback Tone or Playlist for a Day of the Week

    Note: You can set a Ringback Tone or Playlist for a day of the week online.

    Online:

    1. From the Media Store home page, click the Manage Tones dropdown menu.
    2. Click Manage My Ringback Tones.

      Note: You must be signed in with your User ID and Password for My Verizon to access your Ringback Tones.

    3. Click Edit next to the song or Playlist you want to set for a day of the week.
    4. Click the Calendar icon.
    5. Click the Add icon under each day you want to assign the Ringback Tone to.
    6. Click Apply Changes.
    7. Click the X icon in the top-right corner to close the edit window.
    Set a Ringback Tone or Playlist for a Time of Day

    Note: You can set a Ringback Tone or Playlist for a time of day online.

    Online:

    1. From the Media Store home page, click the Manage Tones dropdown menu.
    2. Click Manage My Ringback Tones.

      Note: You must be signed in with your User ID and Password for My Verizon to access your Ringback Tones.

    3. Click Edit next to the song or Playlist you want to set for a time of day.
    4. Click the Clock icon.
    5. Select a start time, end time and your time zone.
    6. Click Apply Changes.
    7. Click the X icon in the top-right corner to close the edit window.

Caller Greeting Settings

    Change the Caller Greeting Settings

    On Your Phone:

    1. Open the Verizon Tones app.
    2. Tap Manage My Ringback Tones.
    3. Tap the Plus Sign icon on the right of the screen.
    4. Select whether to turn the caller greeting on or off, or to change the language from English to Spanish.

    Online:

    1. From the Media Store home page, click the Manage Tones dropdown menu.
    2. Click Manage My Ringback Tones.

      Note: You must be signed in with your User ID and Password for My Verizon to access your Ringback Tones.

    3. Click the Language dropdown menu to change your caller greeting language.
