This page explains the ins and outs of calling internationally from the US using the Verizon Wireless network, our current international plan options, how to make international calls and how to block international numbers.

  1. What is International Calling while in the US?

    While in the US, you can make calls to another country using your mobile phone. If you call other countries only occasionally, you can pay a standard per-minute rate. If you make such calls frequently, you should consider our international calling plans:

    • Unlimited TogetherSM - World - Enjoy unlimited long distance calls from the US to landline phones in over 60 countries and mobile phones in over 30. Plus make discounted calls to an additional 160+ destinations all for $15/month per line.

    Note: Making international calls while in the US to certain countries may be restricted for a variety of reasons. However, you can always place an international call from your mobile phone using a calling card.

  3. What countries are included with Unlimited Together - North America?

    Unlimited Together North America includes unlimited calling to landlines and mobile phones in:

    • Canada
    • Mexico
    • Guam
    • Northern Mariana Islands
  4. What's the difference between a landline terminating charge and a mobile terminating charge?

    The charge for a call or message from your mobile device to a landline is called a landline terminating charge. The charge for a call or to send a message from your mobile device to a mobile number is called a mobile terminating charge.

    The charge for an international call while in the US includes the airtime charge from your plan, in addition to the per-minute rate based on what type of phone answered the call.

  5. Am I able to make international calls from my Verizon Wireless phone?

    Yes, we offer 2 different features, International Services Enabled Lite and International Services Enabled, which let you make international calls from your Verizon Wireless phone. International Services Enabled Lite is included with your plan and lets you make international calls from the US to all countries, except the following:

    If you wish to make calls from the US to any of these 18 countries, or if you wish to make calls to other countries while traveling outside the US (except for calls back to the US or calls within the country in which you're traveling), you'll need to add International Services Enabled to your account. In order to add International Services Enabled to your account, your account must have been active for at least 34 days and be in good standing. If your account has been active for less than 34 days, you'll need to contact Customer Service so that we may determine if you're eligible.

  6. How do I add International Services Enabled to my line or account?

    You must first meet eligibility requirements to add international calling to your line or account, including a minimum payment history and contract term requirements. If you're eligible to add International Service while in the US plan, you can do so from the International Usage and Services page in My Verizon or through the Add/Change Features section in My Business.

  7. What are the rates for calls made while in the US to another country?

    Rates for international calling while in the US vary by country. If you occasionally make calls to another country, you'll pay a standard per-minute rate.

    If you're a more frequent caller, we offer international calling options with included minutes or discounted rates:

    • Unlimited TogetherSM World

    *4G LTE data speeds apply for the first 0.5 GB/day with 2G reduced speeds thereafter. If more than 50% of your talk, text or data usage in a 60-day period is in Canada or Mexico, use of those services in those countries may be removed or limited.

  8. How do I place an international call while in the US with my Verizon Wireless phone?

    To place a call while in the US to a country that uses 10-digit dialing, simply enter the 10-digit phone number you wish to call, then tap the Call button.

    To place a call while in the US to all other countries, you'll start with 011. Next, you must enter the country code, followed by the number you wish to reach. For additional information on dialing patterns for specific countries, visit our International Service Options (while in the US) page.

    For example, if you'd like to call a number in France:

    1. Enter 011 and the country code 33.
    2. Enter the phone number.
    3. Tap the Call button.

  9. If someone calls me while they're outside the US, will I be billed the international rate?

    No, you won't be charged international rates if you're in the US and someone calls you while they're outside the US.

  10. How can I get help making international calls from the US?

  11. How do I block an international phone number?

    You can use our free number blocking service to block calls and messages from domestic and international numbers from countries that follow the 10-digit North American numbering plan. If you subscribe to Verizon Smart Family™ or Usage Controls, you can block any international number.

  12. How do I block calls to international numbers?

    If you currently have an international calling feature on your account, you can remove it from the Change Your Plan page in My Verizon, to disable outgoing calls to international numbers. However, you can still call those countries that follow the 10-digit North American numbering plan. You'll be charged at our International Voice rates while in the US.

International Messaging

  1. How much does international messaging cost while I'm in the US?

    If you're on the new Verizon Plan (including unlimited options), your plan includes unlimited messaging to and from other countries while you're in the US.

    If you're on a different plan, you can view international messaging rates on our International Services (while in the US) page.

  2. Do I need to sign up for international messaging?

    International messaging is automatically included when you enable international services on your account.

  3. Can I send picture and video messages (multimedia messages) to international destinations from the US?

    International multimedia message (MMS) coverage is available for certain countries and mobile operators within those countries.

    To check availability by country, go to our International Services (while in the US) page, and enter a country in the search field. You'll see the multimedia messaging services available for that country.

  4. What number do I need to use to send an international message?

    To send an international message while in the US:

    • To a country that uses 10-digit dialing: Just use the 10-digit phone number

    • To all other countries: Enter 011, then the country code of the country you're texting, followed by the number you want to message.

    For example, if you'd like to text a number in France:

    1. Enter 011.
    2. Enter the country code 33.
    3. Enter the phone number you want to text message.
