International Travel Program FAQs

This page explains how to get a device for traveling abroad, how to activate and program the device before you leave and what features you can use on your travel device.

General Information
  1. What is the International Travel Program?

The International Travel Program provides wireless service with a basic phone, smartphone or USB modem when you're traveling for 21 days or less to an international destination where CDMA coverage isn't available or GSM coverage is more readily available. You don't have to pay a rental fee or security deposit to use the International Travel Program device. With the International Travel Program you'll:

    • Receive a device, a charger and travel adapters* before leaving the US
    • Pay the one-time shipping cost for the device
    • Be charged for any minutes, messages and data incurred while using the International Travel Program device
    • Receive no separate bills; all charges will appear on your monthly Verizon Wireless bills
    • Keep your regular phone number
    • Have access to 24-hour Global Support

To order an International Travel Program device or to activate one, call (800) 711-8300 while in the US.

  2. In what countries can I use the International Travel Program?

You can use an International Travel Program device if you're traveling to a country without CDMA coverage, which includes most of Europe, Africa, South America and Australia. You can also use the International Travel Program in a country where GSM coverage is more readily available.

Note: The International Travel Program device can't be taken to or used in Cuba, Iran, North Korea or any other country where possession or use is against the law.

For help deciding whether you should use the International Travel Program, call (800) 711-8300 while in the US.

  3. Am I eligible for the International Travel Program?

You're eligible for the International Travel Program if you have:

    • Plans to travel in a country without CDMA coverage or where GSM coverage is more readily available
    • Booked a trip for 21 days or less
    • A standard monthly account (i.e., not prepaid, Home Phone Connect or Push to Talk) in good standing for at least 90 days
    • A consumer, corporate, employee or government account

Note: The International Travel Program device can't be taken to or used in Cuba, Iran, North Korea or any other country where possession or use is against the law.
