The Verizon Just Kids Plan FAQs

General Information

  1. What's the Verizon Just Kids plan?

The Just Kids plan is a child-friendly smartphone plan that accounts for the needs of parents and kids and simplifies your child's first smartphone experience. Just Kids includes:

    • 5 GB of 4G LTE data/month
    • Verizon Smart Family Premium for parental control
    • Unlimited talk and text to up to 20 trusted contacts
    • Safety Mode to avoid overages
    • DVD-quality streaming (480p)
    • Verizon Up rewards

It's easy to add a Just Kids line to your family account.

  2. How do I get the Just Kids plan?

To get Just Kids, your account must have at least 1 mix and match unlimited plan line (i.e., Above Unlimited, Beyond Unlimited, Go Unlimited) to be the "parent" line for the Just Kids line.

If you have a different Verizon plan, it's easy to change your plan online in My Verizon or in the My Verizon app. When you have your mix and match unlimited plan, just add a line to your account and choose the Just Kids plan.

Learn more from our Understand and Change Your Plan FAQs and Add a New Device FAQs.

  3. How does Smart Family help me protect my kids?

Just Kids Smart Family Premium is an account-level service you can use to set smarter boundaries for the Just Kids line and other lines on your account, including:

The Smart Family Premium location feature lets you monitor your child's whereabouts:

    • Set alerts to know when your child arrives at home or school.
    • Your child can view your device's location (when your device and Smart Family location are set to "on").
      • For location accuracy, you need to pair the Smart Family app on your phone with the Smart Family Companion app on your child's smartphone.

Visit our Verizon Smart Family FAQs to learn more.

  4. Do I need a Just Kids plan for each kid or can they share the 5 GB?

Just Kids is a single line plan and its data can't be shared. To get 5 GB/month for each child, you need a Just Kids plan for each child's smartphone line. The more Just Kids lines you add, the lower the cost per line.

Just Kids and Unlimited Mix and Match Plans

  1. Who's eligible to get the Just Kids plan? What plans and devices does my family need to have?

Anyone with a Verizon mix and match unlimited plan (i.e., Above Unlimited, Beyond Unlimited, Go Unlimited) can add a Just Kids plan to his or her account:

    • The Just Kids line must be a smartphone.
    • The unlimited "parent" line can be a basic phone or smartphone. However, to use location services and content filters, the Smart Family parent app must be on a smartphone.
  2. If I get a Just Kids plan for each of my kids, do those phone lines count toward the mix and match 10-phone limit on my account?

Yes, all of the Just Kids smartphone lines count toward the limit of 10 phones you can have on your account with mix and match plans. You can add as many Just Kids lines as you want up to the 10-line limit.

  3. What happens to my Just Kids plan if I switch my plan to a non-unlimited plan, or I cancel or suspend my unlimited plan?

You must have at least 1 mix and match unlimited plan on the account (e.g., Above Unlimited, Beyond Unlimited, Go Unlimited) to have a Just Kids plan on the account. If all mix and match unlimited plans are removed from the account:

    • The Just Kids line is suspended in 48 hours and is disconnected within the next billing cycle.
    • You'll get a message letting you know you can change the Smart Family Premium service to regular pricing.
    • You can choose to change the Just Kids line to a different plan.

If you suspend your unlimited line, the Just Kids line stays active.

  4. How do I change my child's Just Kids plan?

You can change your plan any time in My Verizon. If you want to keep Smart Family, after changing the Just Kids line in My Verizon, you can add Smart Family as a separate service to your account.

Note: After you remove Verizon Smart Family from your account, your restriction settings stay in place for up to 7 days.

Just Kids Cost and Discounts

  1. What does the Just Kids plan cost?

The cost of the Just Kids plan depends on:

  2. Can I get an employee or military discount with the Just Kids plan?

Just Kids isn't eligible for an employer or corporate plan discount. However, active duty military service members and veterans on mix and match plans are eligible for discounts:

    • 1 phone - $15 discount per account
    • 2 phones - $35 discount per account
    • 3+ phones - $40 discount per account

Just Kids customers can also get a $5 discount per phone line each month for using Auto Pay and paper-free billing.

  3. Is the Just Kids plan line eligible to get Apple Music® free or the 6 months free promotion?

No. Just Kids doesn't come with Apple Music included and isn't eligible for the 6-month free Apple Music promotion. You can add Apple Music directly from Apple as a paid subscription.

However, like our other current plans, each Just Kids line qualifies for Verizon Up Rewards. (Rewards can be redeemed only by an account owner or account manager.)

Just Kids and Data Use

  1. What if my child uses more than 5 GB per month on the Just Kids plan?

Just Kids comes with Safety Mode automatically enabled. When the 5 GB/month data limit is reached:

    • Your phone and the child's phone gets an alert.
    • Your child's smartphone connection speed automatically slows to up to 128 Kbps.
    • No overages are charged.

Safety mode can't be disabled on the Just Kids line. If your child is near or reaches the 5 GB data limit, the account owner can add a $15 Data Boost to return the line's use to 4G LTE speed for a 1 GB duration for the rest of the billing cycle.

  2. With Just Kids, does unused data carryover to use the following month?

No, if your child doesn't use 5 GB in a month, the unused data doesn't carry over to the next month.
