How do I log into my Google Account?

  1. From the Start screen, swipe left to display the Apps list.
    Note Alternatively, tap the Right arrow (located in the lower-right; may require scrolling to the bottom).
  2. Tap Settings Settings icon.
  3. Tap email+accounts.
  4. Tap add an account.
  5. Tap Google.
  6. Tap connect to be taken to the Google app authorization page.
  7. Enter your Email address and Password and tap Sign in.
  8. Swipe up to scroll down the page and then tap Accept to authorize your phone's access to your Google Account.
  9. You are returned to the email + accounts screen and your Google Account begin its sync process.When the sync process is complete, you can tap Google and adjust the account's settings.

How do I log into my Facebook account using Windows 8.1?

  1. From the Start screen, swipe left to display the Apps list.
    Note Alternatively, tap the Right arrow (located in the lower-right; may require scrolling to the bottom).
  2. Tap Facebook.
    Note If Facebook is not in the list, it can be downloaded by going to the Store, searching for Facebook and tapping Install.
  3. Enter your Email address or Phone number and Password and tap Log in.

Where are all my Facebook and Twitter contacts?

  1. From the Start screen, swipe left to display the Apps list.
    Note Alternatively, tap the Right arrow (located in the lower-right; may require scrolling to the bottom).
  2. Tap People People icon.
  3. If necessary, swipe left or right until you see the CONTACTS section.
  4. Tap More More icon (located in the lower-right).
  5. Tap settings.
  6. Tap filter contact list.
  7. Tap the slider Switch On icon to turn filtering for only contacts containing phone numbers Off Switch Off icon.
  8. Tap done Done icon.

How do I access the Notifications and Action Center?

  1. To access the Notifications and Action Center, swipe down from the top of the screen toward the bottom.
  2. To open a notification, tap the notification. The app that is responsible for the notification opens. In the case of email or messaging notifications, tapping a specific message opens that message. Tapping the account or app opens the related app to view all messages.
  3. To dismiss a notification, swipe to the left or right. When you swipe the notification of an app that has presented mulitple notifications, all of the notifications for the app are cleared. To clear all of your notifications, tap CLEAR ALL at the top-left of the Notifications and Action Center, just below your available settings shortcut.
  4. To change the available shortcuts displayed in the Notifications and Action Center:
    1. Tap ALL SETTINGS.
    2. Tap notifications + actions.
    3. Below Choose your quick actions, tap a box to choose a different shortcut.
    4. Tap an action shortcut in the list to assign it to the chosen location.

How do I move apps to my microSD card?

  1. From the Start screen, swipe left to display the Apps list.
    Note Alternatively, tap the Right arrow (located in the lower-right; may require scrolling to the bottom).
  2. Tap Storage Sense Storage Sense icon.
  3. To install all newly downloaded and purchased apps to the microSD card, tap the drop down box under Store new apps on my, and select SD card.
    Note If presented with 'Delete other apps?', tap yes.
  4. While still on the 'storage sense' screen, tap phone.
  5. Tap apps + games.
  6. Tap select (located at the bottom) and mark the apps/games that you want to move to the microSD card.
  7. After choosing the desired app/games, tap move.
  8. On the Move to SD card? screen, review the message and tap yes.
    Note You can likewise move apps from the microSD card to the phone by choosing SD card in step 4 above.

Where is the Background Task Manager?

  1. From the Start screen, swipe left to display the Apps list.
    Note Alternatively, tap the Right arrow (located in the lower-right; may require scrolling to the bottom).
  2. Tap Battery Saver Battery Saver icon.
  3. The usage screen displays all of the apps that have used your battery since your last charge. Tap an app to view how much battery it has consumed in the background.
  4. App in use shows the amount of battery used while actively viewing the app. App in background shows the amount of battery used while the app was running in the background.
  5. If you decide that apps are using too much of your battery while running in the background, you can limit apps from running in the background by swiping left or right to get to the Battery Saver settings screen.
    Note Not all apps allow you to turn off their ability to run in the background. These are generally core apps, such as the People app, or apps that sync, such as an email account.
  6. Select which 'Conserve battery life' option to utilize.
    Note Tap the slider Switch On icon to have the 'Conserve battery life' function run until the next charge.

How do I set up the Data Sense app?

Note The Data Sense app allows you to manage how your device uses available data networks. You can set a limit on how much cellular data your device uses.

  1. From the Start screen, swipe left to display the Apps list.
    Note Alternatively, tap the Right arrow (located in the lower-right; may require scrolling to the bottom).
  2. Tap Data Sense Data Sense icon.
  3. Tap set limit to assign a limit for your cellular data usage. You can set your limit to:
    Note Data usage shown in the Data Sense app is measured by your phone. It is to be used as a guide only.
    • none specified - No limit is set for your device. This is the default value of this setting.
    • one time - The data limit is set and after it is reached, it is not reset until you clear the limit reached message and set a new one. You can assign the number of days until the data expires and the amount of data you have left.
    • monthly - the limit is set monthly. You can assign the date that the counter should reset and the amount of data you have available.
    • unlimited - No limit is set for your device.
  4. To keep apps from using data while you are roaming, tap the slider Switch Off icon and turn Restrict background data when roaming to On Switch On icon.
  5. You can use Browser data savings to decrease data consumption when you are browsing the Internet using Internet Explorer. Tap Browser data savings and tap:
    • off - The browser data savings is not active during browsing sessions.
    • standard - Data Sense saves data usage by compressing pictures and other elements on web pages you visit.
    • high - Data Sense saves even more data usage by compressing pictures, blocking some ads, and downloading only part of a web page.
    • automatic - Data automatically picks the best data savings based on how close you are to hitting your data plan limit. This is the recommended setting.

Where is the Bing vision search feature?

  1. From the Start screen, swipe left to display the Apps list..
    Note Alternatively, tap the Right arrow (located in the lower-right; may require scrolling to the bottom).
  2. Tap Camera Camera icon.
  3. When the app finishes loading, tap Lens Lens icon.
  4. Tap Bing Vision Bing Vision icon.
  5. Aim the camera at the QR code, Text, or Book/CD/DVD cover and tap scan text to scan.
  6. Tap translate.
    Note If presented, select language to translate text into.
