Software Update - Software Upgrade Assistant (HTC)

This helps you update the software on your HTC device using your computer/PC or Mac, in the event an Over-the-Air (OTA) software update fails.

Caution Caution:

  • The software upgrade process may take up to 30-35 minutes (depends on Internet speed).
  • Don't disconnect the device from the computer or power off the device until the update completes.
  • You won't be able to use your wireless device during the upgrade process.

Windows

  1. Ensure the Software Upgrade Assistant (SUA) software is installed. Refer to Initial Setup - Software Upgrade Assistant for assistance.
  2. Ensure the wireless device:
    • is powered on
    • connected to a compatible computer using the supplied USB cable.
      Note If prompted, disable device lock setting then reconnect the wireless device.
      Note If the device is not recognized immediately, pull down the notification panel on the phone to switch from "Charge Only" to "File Transfer" or "Software Installation" mode.
  3. When prompted with "Upgrade available", click Upgrade to begin the software upgrade process.
    Note The "Upgrade available" pop-up window only appears when a software upgrade is available.
    Note The most recent software version becomes available on the SUA/SRA tool within a week of a new software update. During this time, the SUA/SRA is unavailable for usage.
    Note Images may vary depending upon device type.

  4. From the Software Upgrade Assistant page, click Upgrade.
    Click Upgrade
    Note The software upgrade begins once the software upgrade package is downloaded and progress of download and upgrade show via a status bar.

  5. Click OK when prompted with "Upgrade complete. Your phone restarts automatically."
    Note If the update fails to install, refer to the Software Repair Assistant for further assistance.
    Click OK
  6. Click Close (located on the lower right) to exit the Software Upgrade Assistant.

Macintosh

  1. Ensure the Software Upgrade Assistant (SUA) software is installed and launched. Refer to Initial Setup - Software Upgrade Assistant for assistance.
    Note After launch, the tool syncs all the picture and music from the PC into the app.
  2. Ensure the wireless device:
    • is powered on
    • connected to a compatible computer using the supplied USB cable.
      Note If the device is not recognized immediately, pull down the notification panel on the phone to switch from "Charge Only" to "File Transfer" or "Software Installation" mode and set USB Debugging mode to enable on the device.
  3. After the device is connected, click Transfer & Backup then click File transfer.

  4. If the device is password protected, a notice to unlock the device appears. Enter the password then click OK for the device to be recognized.

  5. Click Upgrade.
    Note If there is no upgrade available, then the Upgrade button on the Home summary page is disabled.
    Click Upgrade
  6. Select your device from the list table then click the Upgrade button.
    Note The download process takes 30-35 minutes depending on the network speed of the computer.
    Note When the download has finished, the tool starts upgrading the device, which takes 10-15 minutes.

  7. When the upgrade process is complete, click OK then click the Close button to finish the process.
    Note The phone restarts automatically.
    Click OK then Close
