Factory Data Reset (Powered Off) - Nexus 7

A factory data reset may help with a blank or frozen screen, apps crashing or freezing, keypad/touchscreen problems, can't hear, device making noises, can't make or receive calls, and device won't sync.

Caution Perform a factory data reset only if absolutely necessary as it removes all data including:

  • Google account
  • System and app data
  • App settings
  • Downloaded apps
  • Media (Music, pictures and videos, etc.)

 

Note Notes:

 

  1. Ensure the device is powered off.
    1. To power off, press and hold the Power button (located in the upper-right).
    2. Tap Power off.
    3. Tap OK.
      Note Allow several seconds for the device to power off.
  2. Simultaneously press and hold the Volume down + Power buttons until Google logo appears then release.
  3. Select Recovery mode.
    Note Utilize the volume buttons to highlight and the Power button to select.
  4. While holding down the Power button, press and release the Volume Up button once.
  5. Select wipe data/factory reset.
    Note Utilize the volume buttons to highlight and the Power button to select.
  6. Tap Yes -- erase all user data.
    Note Allow several minutes for the reboot process to complete.
  7. Select reboot system now.
    Note Utilize the volume buttons to highlight and the Power button to select.
    Note If applicable, set up your device.
