Activate / Set Up Device - HTC One M9

If you are upgrading your existing Verizon device, follow these steps to activate before proceeding with the instructions below.

Caution To avoid potential issues, review the following:

  • Ensure the SIM card is inserted if performing first time (out-of-the-box) setup.
  • Accounts (e.g., Gmail, email, Cloud, etc.) and optional services (e.g., screen lock) should be set up after activating the device (see Related Topics).
  • To activate the device on prepaid service, refer to Set up Verizon Prepaid Service.

  1. If powered off, press and hold the Power button (located on the right edge; first button from the bottom) until the HTC logo appears then release.
  2. If presented, drag the Lock icon Lock Icon (located at the bottom) to the middle of the screen.
  3. From the 'Welcome' screen, tap tap NEXT (lower-right).
    Note To select a different language from the one displayed, tap the Language box, select a language then tap NEXT.
    Note Allow several seconds for activation to complete.
  4. From the 'Phone activation' screen, tap NEXT.
  5. If presented with "Terms of use", tap (check) the following, if desired, to enable then tap NEXT:
    • Share my precise location
    • Share my personal usage data
  6. From the 'Tap & Go' screen, tap SKIP.
    Note To configure Tap & Go settings after initial setup, navigate: Apps icon > Settings > More > NFC.
  7. From the 'Add your account' (Google) screen, navigate: SKIP > SKIP.
  8. From the Google services screen, turn any of the following on On switch icon or off Off switch icon then tap NEXT:
    • Let Google's location service help apps
    • Improve location accuracy
    • Help improve your Android experience
  9. From the 'Protect your phone' screen, tap Not now then tap SKIP ANYWAY.
  10. From the 'Verizon Cloud' screen, tap SKIP then tap NOT NOW.
  11. From the 'Email setup' screen, tap SKIP.
  12. Tap Done.
