Factory Data Reset (Powered On) - Samsung Galaxy S® 6 / S® 6 edge

A factory data reset may help with a blank or frozen screen, apps crashing or freezing, keypad/touchscreen problems, can't hear, device making noises, can't make or receive calls, and device won't sync.

Caution Perform a factory data reset only if absolutely necessary and review this need to know info before proceeding to prevent the potential loss of important data (e.g., contacts, music, pictures, downloaded apps, etc.).    

Note Notes:

  • An alternate reset method is available if device is unresponsive or won't power on.
  • If troubleshooting third-party apps, disable the Automatic Restore option.
  • During the reset process, you may be asked to enter your Samsung account login.  Refer to this support page for more info.

 

  1. From a Home screen, navigate: Apps Apps menu icon > Settings > Backup and reset (Personal section).
    Note These instructions apply to Standard mode only.
  2. From the Reset section, tap Factory data reset.
    Note If troubleshooting third-party apps, turn off switch off the Automatic restore option.
  3. Tap RESET PHONE.
    Note If presented, enter the current passcode or draw the unlock pattern.
  4. Tap DELETE ALL.
    Note Allow several minutes for the factory data reset and reboot processes to complete.
    Note If applicable, set up your device.
