Samsung Galaxy S® 6 / S® 6 edge - Activate / Set Up Device

If you need to transfer contacts and media from one device to another, follow these step-by-step instructions before activating the new device.

Caution To avoid potential issues, review the following:

  • Accounts (e.g., Gmail, email, etc.) should be set up after activating the device (see Related Topics).
  • To activate the device on prepaid service, refer to Set up Verizon Prepaid Service.
  • Wi-Fi Calling settings don't transfer after switching devices and/or performing a factory data reset. You need to enable W-Fi Calling manually if you want to use it.

  1. If powered off, press and hold the Power button until the Samsung Galaxy S6 screen appears then release.

  2. From the Welcome screen, select the appropriate language then tap NEXT.
  3. From the Phone Activation screen, tap NEXT.
    Note If prompted, enter the last 4 digits of the Account Owner's Social Security Number or the Billing Password.
    Note If activating a new phone, ensure the old phone is powered off and allow several minutes for the deactivation of the old phone to complete.
  4. Tap ACCEPT.
  5. From the Add your account screen, tap SKIP > SKIP.
  6. From the Google services screen, select any of the following to turn on of off then tap NEXT.
    • Use Google's location service to help apps
    • Improve location accuracy
    • Help improve your Android experience
  7. From the Name screen, enter the first and last name then tap NEXT.
  8. From the Protect your phone screen, select No, thank you then tap SKIP > SKIP ANYWAY.
  9. If presented with the Verizon Cloud screen, tap SKIP > NOT NOW (lower-left).
  10. From the Email setup screen, tap SKIP (lower-right).
  11. From the Summary screen, tap DONE (lower-right).
  12. If presented with the Samsung account screen, sign in with the account used on a previous Samsung device then tap SIGN IN or tap CREATE ACCOUNT.
