Querying the Modem - Windows®

Caution Running a query of the modem is a test of the hardware and is not considered a resolution.

Note Notes:

  1. From the Windows desktop, click Start> Control Panel.
    Note With Windows 7, click Start > Devices and Printers.
    Note With Windows 8, right-click Start then select Control Panel.
    Note With Windows 10, right-click Start then select Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Phone and Modem Options.
    Note With Windows Vista Control Panel Home view, click Hardware and Sound > Phone and Modem Options.
    Note With Windows 7, right-click the device then select Modem settings.
    Note With Windows 8, in the Search box, enter phone then click Phone and Modem.
    Note With Windows 10, if requested, fill in dialing information (e.g., local area code, etc.) then click the Modems tab.

  3. From the Modems tab, select the desired modem then click Properties.
    Note If duplicate modems are listed, ensure the duplicates are removed.
  4. From the Diagnostics tab, click Query Modem.
  5. Click OK.
    Note If the command ATQXXXXX responds with "Success", the device is functioning properly. If the command fails, troubleshoot the hardware. Try using the device on another USB port or computer.
