Manage Mobile / Wi-Fi Hotspot Settings - Samsung Galaxy J1™

To configure Manage Mobile / Wi-Fi Hotspot Settings (e.g., password, allowed devices, etc.), view this info.

  1. From a Home screen, navigate: Apps Apps icon > Settings.
    Note These instructions apply to Standard mode only.
  2. From the Wireless and networks section, tap More.
  3. Tap Mobile Hotspot.
  4. Tap the Menu icon Menu icon (located in the upper-right) then select an option:

Configure hotspot

  1. Tap Configure hotspot.
  2. From the Configure hotspot screen, configure the following as needed:
    • Network SSID
    • Hide my device
      Note Enabled when a check mark is present.
    • Security
      • Open
        Note If presented with Warning screen, tap Continue.
      • WPA2 PSK
    • Password
      Note Password can be changed.
    • Show password
      Note Enabled when a check mark is present.
    • If needed, tap Show advanced options.
      Note Enabled when a check mark is present.
    • When Advanced options are enabled, configure the following:
      1. Tap the appropriate Broadcast channel options:
        • 2.4 GHz Band
        • 5 GHz Band
      2. Tap the Dropdown menu Drop down menu icon then tap the appropriate channel (i.e. Auto, 1 - 11).
        Note Auto (default setting) is recommended.
  3. Tap SAVE.


Allowed devices

  1. To create a list of devices that can connect to the hotspot, tap Allowed devices.
    Note To set allowed devices:
    1. Tap the Add icon Add icon (upper-right).
    2. Enter the device name and MAC address then tap OK.
      Note To remove an allowed device tap the Delete icon Trashcan icon, select device(s) to remove then tap the Delete icon again.
  2. Tap the Back icon Back icon (lower-left).
  3. From the Mobile Hotspot screen, tap the device name (e.g., SM-J10VPP-xxxx).
    Note By default, xxxx are the last 4 digits of of the Wi-Fi MAC address.
  4. Tap one of the following:
    • All devices
    • Allowed devices only


Timeout settings

  1. Tap Timeout settings.
    Note Sets how long before the hotspot will turn off after no activity.
  2. Select an option:
    • Never timeout
    • 5 min
    • 10 min
    • 20 min
    • 30 min
    • 60 min
