Disable Wait for Dial Tone - Windows®

Windows Vista

  1. From the Windows Vista desktop, navigate: Start > Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Phone and Modem Options.
  2. From the Modems tab, select the appropriate modem from the list then click Properties.
  3. From the Modem tab, ensure "Wait for dial tone before dialing" is not selected then click OK.
  4. Click OK to close the Phone and Modem Options dialog box.

 

Windows 7

  1. From the Windows 7 desktop, click Start.
  2. From the Search programs and files field, enter phone then click Phone and Modem.
  3. From the Modems tab, select the appropriate modem from the list then click Properties.
  4. From the Modem tab, ensure "Wait for dial tone before dialing" is not selected then click OK.
  5. Click OK to close the Phone and Modem Options dialog box.

 

Windows 8

  1. From the Windows 8 desktop, right-click Start then click Control Panel.
  2. In the search box, enter "Phone" then click Phone and Modem.
  3. If presented, enter the location information (e.g., area code, etc.) and click OK.
  4. From the Modems tab, select the appropriate modem from the list then click Properties.
  5. From the Modem tab, under Dial Control, ensure "Wait for dial tone before dialing" is not selected then click OK.
  6. Click OK to close the Phone and Modem Options dialog box.

 

Windows 10

  1. From the Windows 10 desktop, right-click Start then click Control Panel.
  2. Click Phone and Modem.
  3. If presented, enter the location information (e.g., area code, etc.) and click OK
  4. From the Modems tab, select the appropriate modem from the list then click Properties.
  5. From the Modem tab, under Dial Control, ensure "Wait for dial tone before dialing" is not selected then click OK.
  6. Click OK to close the Phone and Modem Options dialog box.
