Factory Data Reset (Powered Off) - Samsung Galaxy Gear S®

A factory data reset may help with a blank or frozen screen, apps crashing or freezing, keypad/touchscreen problems, can't hear, device making noises, can't make or receive calls, and device won't sync.

Note This article relates to the Samsung Galaxy Gear S. If working with the Gear S2 see article 200159.


Caution Perform a factory data reset only if absolutely necessary as it removes all data including:

  • Google account
  • System and app data
  • App settings
  • Downloaded apps
  • Media (Music, pictures and videos, etc.)


Note An alternate reset method is available if the device can be powered on and is responsive.

  1. Ensure the Gear S is powered off.
  2. Press and hold the Power key untill Rebooting appears on the display then release the key.
  3. From the "Rebooting" screen, press the Power key until "Recovery" is highlighted.
    Note The Gear S resets. Allow some time for the reset process.
