Turn Wi-Fi On / Off - Windows 8

This shows how to turn Wi-Fi on and off. If you're having trouble setting up or connecting to Mobile Hotspot, make sure Wi-Fi is off.

Note If your device is not running Windows 8, refer to Windows 10 for further instruction.

  1. From the right edge of the screen, swipe left to display the charms menu.
    Note If using a mouse, move the pointer to the upper or lower-right corner of the Start screen then move up/down.
    Note Alternatively, press the Windows+C keys ( windows key logo+C) located on the physical keyboard (if available).

  2. Tap or click Settings.

  3. Tap or click the Wireless network icon Wireless network icon.
  4. Tap or click the Wi-Fi switch to turn on Switch On icon or off Switch Off icon.
    Note Depending upon personalization options, the switch colors may differ from the examples depicted above.
    Note For notebook computers (non-tablets), a physical switch may need to be turned on.

 

Note Notes:

  • The device may not connect to 3G/4G if Wi-Fi is turned on.
  • Any apps or settings that are Wi-Fi reliant won't function while Wi-Fi is turned off.
