Soft Reset - HTC Desire® 526

A soft reset can resolve issues like continuous resetting/rebooting, device crashing, freezing, won't ring or vibrate, can't make or receive calls, device locks up, and keypad doesn't respond.

Note Notes:

  • A soft reset (turning the device off then back on) is similar to restarting a desktop computer and is one of the first steps in troubleshooting a device. In most cases, a soft reset won't affect data on the device, unless the battery is very low.
  • If the device won't power on, plug into the provided wall charger then press and hold the Power + Volume Up buttons for a full 12 seconds.
Note If the device still doesn't power on, press and hold the Power, Volume Up and Volume Down buttons for a full 1-2 minutes.
  • If the device is unresponsive and you are unable to perform a soft reset, remove then re-insert the battery.

Preferred Method

  1. Press and hold the Power button (located on the right) until the Phone options screen appears then release.
  2. Tap Restart.
  3. From the 'Restart phone?' prompt, tap RESTART.
Note Allow several minutes for the process to complete.

Alternate Method

Simultaneously press and hold the Volume up button (located on the right edge; first button from the top) and the Power button (located on the right edge; first button from the bottom) until the device powers off (approximately 12 seconds) then release.
Note Allow several seconds for the reboot process to complete.
