Factory Data Reset (Powered Off) - Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge +

A factory data reset may help with a blank or frozen screen, apps crashing or freezing, keypad/touchscreen problems, can't hear, device making noises, can't make or receive calls, and device won't sync.

Caution Caution:

  • If the device is responsive and can be powered on, the preferred reset method should be performed.
  • For devices with Android Device Protection turned on, it's imperative Google sign-in credentials are known prior to completing a factory reset with the device powered off. If credentials are unknown:
    • Attempt to sign in with any Google™ account previously used on the device.
    • Reset the password.
  • Perform a factory data reset only if absolutely necessary as it removes all data including:
    • Contacts
    • Email accounts
    • System and app data
    • App settings
    • Downloaded apps
    • Media (Music, pictures and videos, etc.)

Note Notes:

 

  1. Ensure the device is powered off.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up button (located on the left edge of the device) and the Home button (located at the bottom below the display).
  3. While continuing to hold the Home and Volume Up buttons, press and hold the Power button (located on the right edge) until "Android Recovery" appears in the upper left then release all buttons.
    Note A screen that says "installing system update(s)" may appear prior to reaching the Android Recovery screen.
  4. Select wipe data/factory reset.
    Note Utilize the Volume Up/Down buttons to highlight and the Power button to select.
  5. Select Yes.
    Note Allow several seconds for the factory data reset to complete.
  6. Select reboot system now.
    Note Allow several minutes for the reboot process to complete.
    Note To set up the device after the reset has completed, refer to Initial Activation and Setup.
